Bat Numbering Question

Gang,

I just got a bat (Rawlings)That was made in 1997. In 1997 Bobby Bonilla was # 24, and Al Leiter the pitcher was # 25. In 1998 Bonilla was again # 25. The Bonilla bat has # 25 on the knob.

#1 is this a Bonilla bat That Leiter may have used and marked?
OR..............

#2 Did Bonilla just use the bat the following year?

Expert opinions are very welcome...........

Den

Den,

How is it going? What is the 3 Digit batch code on the bat. The higher the number, the more likely it was used in Spring 1998 or early 1998 by Bonilla.

Rawlings bats are made all year long, so a bat made in November and December 1997 would have "97" stamped in the knob and be used in Spring Training 1998 at the earliest!

Hope this info helps!

Don't be too concerned with the dating on the handle. I've aquired bats from players that were used a few years after the date on the handle. It's not uncommon.
Look more for player characteristics such as pine tar application, cleat marks etc...
