Or did it just vary from team to team. It seems like the Celtics stuck with the Knit the longest. I have seen Celtics jersey from the 1987-88 season that were knit, but in the playoffs it looked like they were wearing mesh. Any info on this out there? Thanks.

I think it was a team by team decision. I know tha bullets used knits well into the 80s, and switched around the time the celtics did.

of the knit jerseys? Or was it when Champion took over that everybody went Mesh? I'm mostly concerned for when the Celtics last used Knit and I think it was 87-88, but I'm not sure. Both teams played hard-is that correct or not? Thanks for any info you can give me.

Most recent Durene NBA Gamer?

October 14 2005, 5:54 PM

I believe Celtics last year of knits was 87-88...still researching...

I have a 1978 Washington Bullets made of shiney durene knit. Does anyone know of any teams wearing durene after that? The recent "Turn back the clock" jerseys seem to be all made of nylon knit...while most of the originals (50s-60s-70s) were durene cotton/nylon blend. I know Sand Knit made durenes for the NFL Packers and Browns into the 80s.

Can't help you on the Durene stuff. Too far back for me. I have found many photos of the Celtics wearing the knits in 87-88. In fact, the March 1988 issue of SI has Bird wearing a knit jersey on the cover of it. But, in the playoffs a few months later, I have pictures of them wearing the mesh jerseys. So maybe that's when the Celtics finally went to Mesh jerseys-in the 1988 playoffs.

Celtics knit to mesh

I think they went mesh in the spring because the arena's were warmer at playoff time. I know some hockey teams did that.
