We are a group of friends who have come together because we share the common bond of caring for someone who has Trisomy 21. We are here to share therapy tips, medical issues, laughs, accomplishments and yes, even frustrations. We embrace what Trisomy 21 has brought into our lives. We feel that it has taught us to appreciate the true meaning of life. We count our children as blessings! We will fiercely protect them and fight for their lives to be valued just as all other peoples' are. We share our pictures, our stories and our hearts here not only to provide friendship and support for each other, but also in the hopes that others will open their minds and their hearts to our unique children and, in turn, make a better world for everyone.

Moving to MN - HELP Please

Hi there,
can anyone recommend a school for me. We are moving to MN from Iowa and my 9 year old son with Down syndrome and apraxia will be in the 4th grade, 3rd if we decide to hold him back to have more time with his peers. We are fortunate enough to pick where we want to go in Mn around the twin cities, but wow, where do we start? I have heard good things about lino lakes, and lakeville. Anyone have any other ideas or advice? Thanks MN moms! And to anyone who can offer assitance on how to go about finding a great school for him. Thanks.
Danyel

I don't live there, but I know a couple of people who aren't on this board, but have children with DS who do. If you email me, I'll see if I can get some information for you. tamara.rampold@gmail.com

Here is what I know...

February 22 2008, 1:09 PM

Hi I am Kris, mom to Jennifer and I have heard very good things about Centenial School District which is located in Lino Lakes. I know quite a few families with children with T21 in that district. Our school distict, Roseville has been good so far, but the highschool gets a bit large and I am not really excited about it. Two other districts that are supposed to be good (though I don't know from a special ed standpoint if they are good) are Mounds View and also Mahtomedi.

When looking at housing, make sure that even if you are in the town that is of the same name as the school that you truly end up in that school district. For example, some parts of Lino lakes actually go to Forest Lake school district etc. and they are supposedly, not so good.

Anyway, hope that helps! I look forward to meeting you and connecting with you in real life too! The support group that I attend is actually in Lino Lakes, really nice group. Oh, also I don't know anything about Lakeville, so I just can't help there. Connie, Elly's mom lives in the south metro, so put a post on the main board or drop her a line at: family@gotsnow.org

Best Wishes!

Kris and Jennifer 4/02 and William 5/04
