Nathan Erickson emailed me (and mayve several of you guys) asking what I thought his #1 C55 set would sell for - he might sell. I told him it would sell for more than I can spend and asked if he wanted me to post his contact info on a couple of forums - its here first -
He is moving and he's considering selling. His set has been #1 for 5 years. I believe its certainly one of the top three in existance (and a eBay buyer 'alfredsstevens' has bought over 50 5's over the last two years). Of course John (who frequently posts here) is moving up fast with a spectactular set.
The weighted grade of Nathan's set is 5.98. Any guesses as to what its worth?

I doubt it 'Fred.' Both sets are legitimately graded in my opinion. I saw a number of Julius' cards when they were Steve's and they are right on for grades.
"All his grades are from before 2000. Most of the Imperials I've seen that are PSA graded from back then are 1 to 3 grades to high. That's why Northern Lights doesn't show scans of his C56's on the registry. His PSA 8 Pitre looks more like a 5. It has some serious corner wear, and his PSA 7 Laviolette is a miscut and trimmed card."
Fred, just for clarification, we didn't start using PSA until 1999 when we had a lot of Sammy Sosa rookie cards graded and sold them on e-bay. My dad sent this set in at least 2 years after that, so the earliest the set would have been graded is 2001. Given that it was best of the registry for the first time in 2002, that would be my guess as to the date of grading. I will be scanning every card in mid-September and will happily send you them afterwards, but the question is are you a potential buyer or just bashing my set?
you have serious issues that a well trained, professional psychologist needs to address with you. now is the time to act, before you end up killing someone
folks, i would like to apologize for this guy coming on here and starting problems. he's the "bad seed" of the vintage hockey community. ask any well respected hockey collector, and they'll tell you all about him. he's nuts

"Fred", you are not man enough to post your name beside your bs threads therefore you will be banned. I am currently on vacation and do not apreciate the headache of deleting posts, blocking your ip address and answering emails about your crap. Keep your crap on CU. Jim

Bravo, Jim. I don't know if when you started this forum that you thought that this would be one of the difficulties that goes along with it. I just hope that the passion that all of us have for vintage hockey will overcome the negative aspects. Nathan, beware the name ....... He always has the same modus operandi for stirring up trouble and controversy where none exists and being very confrontational. Mark and I both have long lists of stories about this guy.

"Fred" has asked me to remove his real name from our posts. I have done so in any of my posts. I don't have time right now to edit everyone's so if you guys can edit your posts containing his name I would apreciate it. Thanks, Jim.
Guys, I appreciate your responses regarding "Fred's" comments on the set. I'm not really worried about it, it is what it is. I have been reviewing the forum and am very impressed with the content. If I were more into vintage hockey cards I think I would really enjoy it. Unfortunately when I was collecting I was more into 70's-90's, so the cards I wouldn't dream of selling are my Michael Jordan and Wayne Gretzky rookies etc. Although this set has a great story with how we acquired it (I'm happy to share via e-mail if anyone's interested), to me it's just something that sits in a safe deposit box, not being enjoyed by anyone. Anyway, as I've told many of you my dad and I will be talking about the set when he comes down in September and deciding what we will do. I will let you all know on the forum and will also be getting the cards scanned at some point and either sending them to PSA to put on the registry or having them available for request.
By the way, I found the discussion on the consistency of PSA grading interesting. I wonder how grades would change if you were to have cards re-graded? I know I have a beautiful 1952 Bowman Mickey Mantle that came back a 6, which I couldn't believe. Even a nice explanation as to why they came up with the grade they did would be helpful.
I just wanted to let you all know that we've sold the 1911 C55 set to a private buyer. We considered an auction and had a couple of private offers and in the end decided to go with one of the offers. We feel we received a fair price and are happy with the transaction. We're also glad to have sold it to someone who will truly treasure the set. Thank you all for your interest and advice. Best of luck in your future collecting!
