Big Time Dealers

I wasn't sure what to label this post, but after reading the post on the 1955 Quaker Oats card I thought this was appropriate.

In those postings, 3 dealers were mentioned Len, Gerry, and Harvey. I have met Harvey and bought from him for years. I have been buying from Gerry for the past couple of years too, but I don't know Len. Can anyone fill me in? I would like to find another good dealer to add to my list.

Also, is there anyone else that you guys can recommend? I used to deal with a guy from Vancouver, years ago before eBay, but he got out of the business. Who else is good to deal with?

Earl. Although I haven't bought anything from him in years, Len is a good dealer with a ton of stuff. He just doesn't get cards graded. I am actually in Nova Scotia right now and am going to meet up with him tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes. I do not buy from the other two for different reasons. Hopefully as this board matures we can get a good B/S/T going and everyone can pick up some cards they want. Jim

raw cards

From my recent experiences with Len and Gerry, you can give up expecting to find any raw card gems. Anything of high quality, they are sending to PSA themselves, and who can blame them. The last time Len was in Vancouver, I picked over his cards in the years I collect (66 to 69)...I found a bunch of EXC cards that at first looked maybe Nrmt.....I did find a couple of 69's that ended up PSA 7's though.

Len has told me on multiple occasions that his son Steve picks thru his raw cards and submits them himself for grading and eventual sale on ebay. If I remember correctly, I think his son sells under the ebay id potts39.

Ray is right about Len. Len's son sells on ebay as potts39. Len does still have some nice NM raw material at shows. In all my dealings I would rank Len as the best hockey dealer.

I have had dealings with all 3 of these dealers and I know them well from the expo. Your unlikely to find any treasures from these guys. If it was good they would send it out and sell it on ebay. All of there stuff is priced high. All 3 of these guys tend to be pretty grumpy and are all business. I particularly dont like any of them but am forced occaisionally to have to deal with them. Otherwise I avoid them. Just my opinion.

I find Gerry very nice to deal with and nicer in person....Len is easier to deal with, but a bit distant in person.....I have given up buying raw cards in general though.

Dealers

I'm not particularly looking for raw cards. I used to buy raw cards, but dealers started saving the good stuff for grading, or I would end up with an overgraded card. I have also bought cards that were trimmed or altered on a few occasions. I still buy some 60's raw, but for 1950's and earlier I look for graded.

I was actually just looking for new dealers to buy from. I have bought cards from Harvey and still buy from Gerry. I have also bought from Len's son on eBay, but I haven't ever met Len.

I was hoping that you guys might have some other people to recommend. It's not as easy to get in touch with Harvey as it used to be since he has the store now. Gerry is easy to get on the phone, but sometimes he doesn't have what I need. I hope just waiting for something to appear on eBay.

Hopefully, I will continue to find cards through this site! I bought a nice graded card last month, and just this week was able to pick up 3 tough graded cards for another set that I have been working on. Finding this message board has been great!
