1-10 in full point grades ie:8
1-10 in half point grades ie:8.5
1-100 with a 10 point range in each grade ie: a minimum requirment card would get 80 while a just missed the next level would get 88

Grading Scale

October 12 2006, 3:59 PM

Personally, I like the 1-10 with .5 grades. It's funny that KSA is one of the main people who use this scale and people are down on their grading. PSA came along first and established the 1-10 scale, but we all know that not all 7's are created equal! Same with many of the other grades. I'm starting to notice wide variation with lower grades like 2,3, and 4.

I love SGC as a company, but the scale is confusing to many people. They don't really grade each card from 1-100, they have a number of steps, but their advertising makes it look different.

I wish that PSA would add half grades, but I'm not holding my breath!

I prefer the PSA method

I like the PSA method....grading is subjective, and using .5 increments without having access to the grader's rationale, doesn't really do much for me. It's bad enuf on ebay when you get sellers saying that "their PSA 7 should have been an 8".....I say, get it in an 8 holder then...

I prefer half point grades over PSA's MC.
I really don't understand why PSA 8 OC cards are valued much lower than PSA 7
It doesn't make sense

Eye Appeal

October 13 2006, 1:41 PM

The concept of eye appeal is very important and relevant in coin collecting...to a lesser extent with cards, but none the less, I feel eye appeal is a legitimate concern with off center cards. A miscut card can be very distracting to the eye...the qualifier I have a lot of problem is with the STain (ST)...because often the stain is on the reverse...
