Normally modern cards stay around the same price range but this just blows my mind- 1910 C56 Hockey - Cattarinigh #16 PSA 5 (RARE) This card sold a few weeks ago for $355USD, The seller relisted and it just ended for an unreal $610.00USD! Does this SHOCK anyone else at all?? If that isn't enough his C.Toms in PSA 6 which he purchased for only $550USD just sold for $711USD!! Not a bad profit for only a 2 week hold on the two cards.
With ebay, not everyone is on at any given point in time, so ebay prices are skewed. Only takes two people in the right mood to drive the price of an item through the roof.
When I did the Vintage Hockey Collector's Price Guide, I didn't use ebay prices because it doesn't represent a true value because "timing is everything" with ebay. Anyone ever miss an auction and near broke your computer because you were so mad and the item went cheap....I am sure there is allot of that, that goes on.
People are on holidays or busy with life or didn't do their searches that week or missed the auction or didn't see it because the guy listing didn't list it properly.....etc!!
Oh, by the way, the VHC is at the printers and should be ready in the second week in November!!
Prices on new cards are usually consistent since there are plenty of them to go around. Most people are looking to sell new stuff in order to cash in while the value is high.
With Vintage, you never know when the card will come back up for auction. Sometimes people are willing to spend more rather than wait another year of longer. Also, many times it comes down to timing. If the right person is online and searching eBay, then the card is going to go for a good price because he will spend whatever it takes to win the auction. Other times it seems like the people who are willing to pay the extreme prices are out of town or not searching eBay.
I guess that's why I find it hard to estimate what price C56 cards will sell for.
I am pretty surprised with the price of the Toms. That card has traded hands a few times in the past year. The pop on Toms has grown significantly in the past year. There are quite a few C56's just listed on ebay with the latest reduced listing fee. Somebody beat me to the PSA 5 Pitre card.
