Earl, looked into the c56 set your trying to assemble and SMR price guide magazine has 23 of the 36 listed. Looking at psa 4's and psa 5's you'll have 10k to 25k into it when your thru. But what a nice set you'll have. Question has anyone assembled a better set already. I know most better c55,c56,and c57's are 4's and 5's and the cards are scarce. Earl what c56's do you have already?
There are a few complete sets on the PSA Set Registry. The #1 set is owned by someone called Northern Lights. His set has 16 PSA 7's, including the Lalonde. Another 17 cards graded 6, one 4 and one 5, and a Pitre in PSA 8! That's a serious set!
There are 4 complete sets listed and they all are made up of mostly PSA 5 cards with some 6 and some in lower grades. I don't plan to complete with the top 5 sets on the registry, but eventually I'll have my set complete and graded. Beckett lists the set at $10,000 complete, but I don't think that price has been adjusted recently. That is actually for a raw set in ExMint condition. That might be hard to find, but that is nothing new for Beckett. SMR isn't much better when you look at what graded cards are actually selling for.
This set will take me a while to put together, but so far is have Frank Patrick PSA 4, Lester Patrick PSA 4, Percy LeSueur PSA 4, Cyclone Taylor PSA 5, and Jack Marshall PSA 5. Only 5 cards so far, but some of the better cards from the set. I need to sell some stuff so that I can buy more!
