CCM Photos et al

Every once in awhile I (used to) see one of these surface. They are from the 30s, not sure exactly what year(s). I know there is one of the Bruins featuring Shore et al. Does anyone have one of these ? Or know for how many years they were produced ? I seem to recall having a conversation with someone who cited some differences in border colour, some kind of variation that impacted value for whatever reason.

I really like vintage photographs and the one Jim posted reminded me that I was chasing one of these CCMs awhile back; so, as usual, any info would be appreciated.

As consideration, here's one of my favorites; I found it in the original envelope so had it mounted with the envelope as the matte.

Al. capsports on ebay just ran a bunch of these. Do a completed item search, it was just a few days ago. I was going to go after all the Leaf ones but forgot about it. Jim.

Thanks Jim. Didn't see any auctions by capsports but there were a couple that ended a few days ago from another seller (no Bruins though). Someone has a "complete set" up, seems like an awful high price given how much the individual ones are going for but again not sure if there is something (year, condition) that makes one more valuable than another.

Capsports2000 did just do an auction of a batch of CCM's as did another guy a few days before. I won 3; 2 Grey Borders (Toronto and Moncton) and the first Blue border I've seen on eBay in 2 years of watching.

These photos were premiums with skates over 4 years.
1932-33 - 4 different, grey borders - rare
1933-34 - 12 different, brown borders - seen fairly often
1934-35 - 10 different, green borders - seen fairly often
1935-36 - 4 different, blue borders - I've just seen the one I just one.

They go on eBay for $30 to $100 depending on condition and subject and a re a bargain IMO.

I've got Boucher from the green border set and the Rangers from the brown border set and like these issues a lot. The All Star group from the Brown Border set is a piece of history (Ace Bailey benefit game with the stars of the 30s) and I just missed out on it from Capsports2000 recent auction....next one I'll go higher.

Thanks Mark. Elmar sent me the links to some of their auctions, I see there was a really nice Bruins one that sold, too bad. I used to look for these regularly but kind of forgot about them. I noticed someone has an entire set up now, the auction says 34-35 but there are 12 (and the borders appear to be brown) so they must actually be the 33-34. Definitely going to keep an eye out for one, I think they are a really great collectible, nicely framed and straight to the "wall of fame". Thanks for the info.

Yes, the CCM's are pretty neat, if they were a premium I would have put them in the book. One day I can just write a nice article about them. Here is a neat piece.

Nice piece. If anyone has any of the .15cent sets, I'll take a couple.

So they were a mail in offer? Cool companion piece!

No mark,
They were sold in stores for 15cents a set. As you can see there is a Sporting Goods Store stamp on the front. There is no postage stamp. So
a general issue and not a premium issue.

I said IF they were a premium I would have put them in the book.

In retrospect, if the CCM Photos (brown boarders) from 1933-34 have pictures of all the teams who won their championships at the end of those respective years, wouldn't this issue have been released in the next hockey season 1934-35!

Thus, the 1933-34 CCM Photos should be documented as 1934-35, much the same as hockey cards are documented. I wouldn't think they would have released these through the summer months between seasons.
