I hope it's not too long...
Dear Fellow Vintage Hockey Collectors,
I’d like (with Jim’s permission) to introduce my website to you.
Originally, the only reason I wanted to design this website was the fact that I’m a computer programmer by education and I thought that I must have my own, personal website. It wasn’t designed to display my cards (there isn’t much to display really) or to sell them. I just wanted to have some kind of card management system, to store my data/pictures on the Internet. What could be a better or safer place to keep my database? My hard drive could crash at any time, I could lose copies and backups, so I thought “Let the hosting company take care of my system. They do daily server backups anyway.”
But then, since the whole design was based on my spare time and creativity, I started adding more and more pages and features to the website. This is still the open-ended project. I make changes pretty often, and I would consider all your comments, suggestions, and additions.
I think the website is easy to comprehend and navigate. I showed it to a few forum members and they haven’t had any problems so far.
Please go to
http://www.collectthemall.net/hc/front.aspx and take a look.
Meanwhile I’ll tell you what it can do…
First of all, like I mentioned before, it displays all categories and cards that I collect and own.
1. Menu on the left: most popular Hockey links
2. Second menu on the top in light blue is links to the Grading companies, Auctions, and Dealers websites; there is even a link to this Forum. There is also the Trading Corner where members can place their Cards for sale and Wish lists. Just go to the Trading Corner and switch between Items for Sale and Wish Lists pages. In order to add information to those pages, you will need access to the Control Panel (user Id, password). Request it by emailing me. So far Earl and Steve have accounts.
3. First top menu in dark blue
a. Old Pictures: I copied nice old images from the Forum, etc. Thanks to all of you (Bobby especially).
b. Scores: real time NHL scores, standings, and scoring leaders.
c. Fantastic cards: displays some high end cards images I have found in the past.
d. Price Guide: I’ve been gathering eBay sales results for the past year and it’d be nice if you helped with that. It’s pretty tedious and time consuming work to look through all eBay auctions, so I’ve chosen only the Pre-1960 category.
e. Search by Name: type any name, Howe for example, and click on the Search button (magnified glass icon). It’ll take you to a new page with all Howe cards found on my site and on eBay (Pre-1960 category). Click on eBay tab. You won’t need to click anything else to see all basic data (like Bids, Price, Time left, eBay sellers and their Feedbacks) and images. Just you’re your mouse over the links. There is also a “Snipe It’ link, next to each item. It provides an option to enter a bid into the Auction Sniper system without actually going to their site (of course, you must already have an account with them). Finally the last dark yellow tab “eBay” will take you to the eBay format search with all above-mentioned info plus links to seller’s eBay stores if they have them (it has some restrictions but I'll discuss them later).
Anyway this website is for you, I hope you will enjoy it and like I said before you’re welcome to send me more links, images, and comments as far as its appearance (layout, fonts, and colors) and functionality.
Elmar
P.S. The website may have some errors, especially when I depend on other sites and servers. Please just let me know and I’ll fix all problems or at least will explain them.
P.P.S Please don’t pay attention to my values numbers, some low quality images. This is just for example and I’ll be updating them all.
