Hi! I was wondering if you guys could help me to understand more about RC's of the 1920's. I understand from another thread that 1923-24 Paulin's Candy cards are felt to be eligible for RC status. Beckett doesn't appear to acknowledge this. I assume Charlton does? I have identified 4 goalie cards in the 23-24 Paulin's set (Chabot, Gillis, Hainsworth, Winkler). Are there more goalie cards in this set, and are all of them felt to be RC's? I know that Beckett doesn't seem to acknowledge ANY Hainsworth RC, but Beckett has designated several 33-34 cards as Chabot RC's.
Also, other than Champ's Cigarettes and Wm Patterson issues, which 20's sets are considered to include RC's? What about Willard's Chocolates, Maple Crispette, Dominion Chocolates? I understand the 28-29 Paulin's issue is not currently considered to contain RC's, from that other thread.
Thanks in advance for any info you can provide!! David
The PSA HOF Rookie Registry lists the Paulins V128-1 cards as rookies which is appropriate as they are cards of Major League hockey players and many are first year. Likewise the V145-1s. I believe Connells rookie is either the V145-2 or the Champs - take your pick. Where there is some debate is cards of minor, or amatuer leaguer players - Gardiners V128-2 for example - not his 'major league' first card, but his first card. To me that is his rookie but others might disagree. PSA doesn't count it since they haven't graded any (I think).
Beckett really has no clue on Pre War hockey cards.
did you guys know that 1923-24 paulins cards are actually 1924-26 cards.with extensive research from ads, posters and players bios it is now well known to be 1924-26. see pages 18+19 in the vhc book.

hi david,i did i quik break down on the companies you asked for as to why there are or arent no rookies for that set. 1923 willards chocolates--no rookies as all hockey players are in there team canada uniforms. 1924-25 maple crispette--yes there are rookies, any player from this set with there first card is a rookie as they are all nhl teams. 1925 dominion chocolate--no rookies as this is a multi sport set. 1928-29 paulins candy--no rookies because the set has a multi assortment of juniors/girls teams and many different leagues so the cards will never be rookies. but in the end the choice is yours to go after true rookie cards or "a players first card" but there is a difference, hope this helps. signed donald
