Just wondering what everyone thinks is "the best rookie filled set ever in vintage hockey"? Lets be fair though and we'll exclude the C56 and 1951 Parkhurst set because those two just make it unfair for the rest of the sets.
my vote would be for the 1933-34 o-pee-chee set. it is just packed with superstar hall of fame rookies. the design of small and big stars surrounding the player is briliant and being o-pee-chee's first set makes it one of the most wanted card sets to collect for vintage collectors. there are also 4 colours to choose from for the backround of each card. green-blue-red or orange.
I know it's sacrilegious (sp) to mention a set with active players, but 1990 OPC Premier featured the rookies of the following:
Rob Blake
Peter Bondra
Tie Domi
Sergei Fedorov
Bobby Holik
J Jagr
Mike Modano
A Mogilny
Owen Nolan
Keith Primeau
Mike Ricci
Jeremy Roenick
Matts Sundin
Dan - you mean "living people" don't you ? Just kidding, good choice, I always thought this was an amazing set. But, will it stand the test of time ? I mean those guys are all relatively signficant now but what about 25 or 50 years from now ? Maybe Fedorov, Jagr, Modano and Sundin.
But since we're getting into "the stuff that sucks" territory, how about 2002-03:
Nash
Zetterberg
Hemsky
Bouwmeester
Ryan Miller
Spezza
Tim Thomas
Just kidding about that last one, had to throw one in for the home team.

come on DAN and AL,look at the original link. these two sets are to modern for this link, give us your best "vintage set" not 90's + present stuff.also i think the 1990 opc premier set sucks because of its false history, remember back in 1991 when people where saying it was a limited run product, look at it now!! just too much of it around. sorry to be rude but those 2 modern sets are not my cup of tea!!
You're right, I was only looking at the title, but the original post does say "vintage". It's Don/Dan's fault for bringing up that Premier set. But sticking with something more modern but still vintage (by some people's standards) I think a biggie was 84-85. Yzerman, LaFontaine, Dougie, Chelios, Andreychuk and the best of 'em all - the great #8, Cam Neely.
Come on Guys 80-81 OPC is the best set since what?early 70's
You got Bourque,Messier Gartner,Gretz 2nd,Gretz all star,Gretz leader cards just a power house set.
I know it is my fav for sure.
Andrew - Good topic.
I think you have to eliminate the C56's, the V145's, all 33 sets and the 51-52 parkies because there is just too many rookie cards in there based on gaps.
