ANY card can be authentic & altered in the following way:
1 - Card is MINT in every possible way BUT had minor tape removal from the back.
2 - Card is perfect BUT someone touched up a corner with black marker to "fill-in" chipping/color loss.
3 - Card was ironed to try and remove minor wrinkle/crease
3 - Card was trimmed
You can see the variety of ways that a card can be altered BUT still be authentic.
AN AUTHENTIC CARD MEANS - that it was made by the specific company in question and from that time period. Just because someone tried to remove a defect does NOT mean it is not authentic.
Just because a card was altered does NOT make it un-authentic. The only way a card can be NOT authentic is if it was a fake.
A fake card would be a scaned card passed off as a "real" card or a computer generated fake or any other fake card that you have heard of in the hobby.
Examples range from fake Gretzky rookies, fake Patrick Roy rookies, fake Lemieux rookies etc.
SO, if that is your card that you scaned it MUST have some type of evidence of alteration to it.
Hope that helps,
Paul
