Just picked up a Glenn Hall 1962-63 Hockey Buck insert for about $73 US on eBay. That's inside the Beckett BV range. What do you guys think? I gather these are relatively hard to come by?

Just checked the Charlton guide and it states that these were issued one per pack. They are unnumbered and were folded to fit the pack. What I found most interesting is that while this was an American issue, the bill itself seems to resemble more of the Canadian currency of the time. It is even bilingual.ie " ONE 1 UN "

The Charlton lists your Hall at $80 in NRMT condition. There are 24 different in the set.

Topps

Although the cards are defined as Topps, these were Canadian issued. All hockey cards were issued in Canada up until 1966-67, then the USA finally distributed the test issue, skipped a year and both OPC and Topps issued seperate card sets.

Topps owned the licience with the teams but the cards were made in Canada starting in 1961 but display boxes were made in Canada since 1958 by the co-owed OPC/Sommerville Box Manufacturers. The two years prior to this Topps made the boxes in the USA and shipped them to Canada, where we packaged and distributed them. No hockey cards were distrubuted in the USA prior to 1966-67! Although I think some distributors may have got their hands on some cards and packs for certiain US states.

Remember, Parkhurst had the Canadian Teams and the Topps had the USA Teams, so when Parkhurst finally went out of business doing cards that freed up Topps to acqurie the other teams (although Detroit bounced around between Topps and Parkhurst for a few years there).

So the Canadian dollar bill on the Hockey Bucks was used because they were made for Canada. They issued these Bucks in baseball a year or two prior to this using the USA dollar bill....

Yes, this is great info. I still don't understand why these appear to be so hard to come by. Are these seen much for sale on eBay?

Buck

The funny part about the hockey bucks are that they weren't inserted into cello packs in Canada but in the US the Baseball Bucks were inseted into thier baseball card cellos. Talk about two different companies!?

Yes, they are available from time to time, no rare but a tough set to complete all at once.
