Sportcard Expo

Can someone tell me the exact date of the second Sportcard Expo show this year at the Toronto International Centre. I went on the website but it doesn't show. I will not be able to fly out for the May show. The reason I'm asking now is because I will have to choose my vacation time in the next few weeks and I would like to take that week off and possibly spend the whole week there. If I don't choose my time right away I will get bumped by others and the date might not be available.
I would also like to hear about this show from people who have went. I've been told that it is one of the best shows that is out there. I was at the Chicago Sun Times show saturday and was disappointed by the fact that there was only one hockey booth out of 400 tables. Thanks.

Hi, the date is contained in the banner at the top of the page --- I almost missed it initially as well!

I have only attended a couple of times, here is my advice (for what it is worth!), go with a budget and a plan. Do a walk around and bring a note pad with you to note the numbers of any booth with stuff of interest, write down the booth number and what item or items you are interested in, as well as posted price. It can be hard to remember where that card was after a few hours walking around.

After walking the floor have a seat, enjoy an expensive piece of pizza, and then make a list of priorities with an eye on the budget.

Then you can go and haggle and try to get the items you want for the price you want. Of course with the rarest of items you might want to grab them on the first pass!

Good luck,
R Haynes

Thanks Ronald, but I wanted to know the SECOND show of the year. I'm not sure how many shows are there each year but I think it's sometime in November. I know about the May show. I'm saying second only because I heard that there are only 2 of these shows.Thanks.

Why not send them an email. Just click on the " contact us " link and ask them first hand.
The date for the fall show always seems to be in early November, but you never know.

The second shows is:

November 9, 10 and 11, 2007
Toronto, Ontario
International Center,6900 Airport RD, Mississauga

Every year there is a May show AND a November show. It has been like that for years.

Hope that helps,
Paul

That helps more than enough Paul. I figured I would ask here before asking them since I'm sure there are many here who frequently attend the show.
Thanks.

Alan,

Your Question:
I've never been to this show. What percentage of the 900 tables is hockey ? What percentage is vintage hockey ? Thanks.

ANSWER:
A very large percentage is hockey - maybe 70% could be more. I have seen about 50% of the entire show to be vintage hockey.

BUT don't expect to see very much pre-war cards. I only know of 3 or 4 dealers that sell pre-war. Gerry's Sports Cards, Platnum Promotions/Len Pottie and AJ Sports World/Harvey.

You will finds lots of 1951 - the present year of hockey. Also, it depends if you are looking for only graded cards or a mix. Out of the entire show the only dealers that sell graded stuff are Gerry's Sports Cards, Aj's Sports World and MAYBE 2 othe guys so graded stuff is NOT very availalbe.

All in all it is a good palce to get some deals.

Hope that helps,
Paul

50% vintage?

<<ANSWER:

That's not true at all. You'll find mostly modern cards there. I'd say they have about 30% (maybe less) of vintage cards there. A lot of these dealers are trying to get rid of their crappy modern cards (hoping to find a sucker), so they have em' all stashed up at their booths.

But the very few dealers that sell vintage cards, sell nice ones. It's worth checking them out.

Which Canadian card show would be the best to go to for vintage? I can care less about modern and I would hate to go to a show that doesn't have alot of vintage.

<<Which Canadian card show would be the best to go to for vintage?>>

I doubt there are any better card shows than the ones they have here in Toronto at the International Centre. I know the French people have insane vintage hockey. Has anyone been to any of the shows in Montreal? Anyways, You should still come down and check it out if you have not been here.

Expo

I knew this was going to happen....leafs are out of the playoffs, second year in a row...

Sorry, just pissed at the slack playing by NJ Devils until the last 5 minutes of the game. And pissed that the leafs fill the Gardens like no other area and they don't care about how to put a team together.....!!

Rather have Ballard back...at least he had a bit of spice in his back pocket.

We'd be in now if they had played Brodeur, but then again "why would they want to tire him out?" It's not like they gave a damn if Leafs made it or not. We had too many injuries this year as well. And losing Peca was the last thing we needed.

Oh well, there is always next year ... miracles do happen
