Grading opinions

I was thinking of sending this to psa for grading. Is there any chance of getting a 3? I'm not sure if its worth submitting for a 1 or a 2. I not a graded card guy and am unsure if it is worth submitting this card. It currently sits in a ksa 4 holder. I bought it raw and had it graded at the expo, more to protect the card than for the grade. I am thinking of sending some of my better cards in for grading and want to start with this one. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Grading

April 14 2007, 3:39 PM

Hi,

If you send your Vezina to PSA you will most likely get a PSA 2. I think it is worth sending it to PSA as it looks great when graded and I think in the long run people will pay more for it if it was graded versus it being a raw card. If I had the card I would grade it. Exprect a low grade.

Thanks,
Paul

A 3's not entirely out of the question, as there are plenty of cards in VG slabs with creases like that. But I would submit it expecting only a 2.

I agree with Yawie. Does the crease go through to the back?

I always agree with Steve and Elliot....

I'd certainly grade it and be happy to own it even if it came back a 2. Its got great eye appeal and it's a classic.

Vezina

Personally I think that card has a decent shot at getting a PSA 3, but I think you will do better submitting it raw than in the KSA holder. I get the feeling that PSA has a bias against most other companies and will grade accordingly.

Your card is well centered with strong color. The corners are rounded evenly and the crease isn't that bad. You might have to resubmit it once or twice, but if you are looking for a 3, I feel that you could definitely get it. Personally, I don't resubmit cards due to the cost of grading vs. value of the card, but for a card of this value, it might be worth it.

Personally, I would grade it, even if it does come back as a PSA 2. Nice card!

Thanks for the replies everyone. The crease does not look as bad to the naked eye as it does in the magnified scan. The card has to be held at an angle to see the crease on the back of the card but it does show up clearly on the scan. Thanks again for the replies. This board and its members are great. I guess i will take a shot and see what grade i get. If anyone has ever removed a graded card from a holder, advice would be appreciated. I would hate to damage the card trying to pop it out of the holder.

Remove a graded card...

Removing a graded card is not big deal. I use a flat head screwdriver in the label end of the card. Put the tip of the screwdriver in the ridge in the holder and turn slowly. the two halves of the holder will pop apart. (That works for PSA cards, and I think that KSA cards have a similar ridge.)

The secret is being patient. As long as you go slowly, you shouldn't have any problem opening the holder.

Good Luck,
Earl
