THE SERVICE WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO UPLOAD THESE CARDS BUT CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHY THERE IS 2 1969 #214 PHIL ESPOSITO CARDS. ONE IS AN ALL STAR CARD AND THE OTHER 1969 #214 PHIL ESPOSTIO DOUBLE TROPHY CARD (ART ROSS AND HART) THEY BOTH SHARE THE SAME NUMBER AND THE CHARLTON DOES NOT HELP.

THX,

Hey Lyle,
Hey, that is cool, there seems to be alot of anomalies in card numbers through the 60's and moreover in the 1970...

Neat information!!

confusion is over

May 15 2007, 9:38 AM

here is the story of the number 214 esposito allstar/double trophy card. lyle there are actually three number 214 espo cards. *first the number 214 all star card is the true number 214 card as it is numbered on the front and no number on the back and it goes with all the allstars in the binder. *second there is the double trophy card with the number 205 on the front but the back has number 214. *third the double trophy card again but no number on the front and number 214 on the back. both trophy cards are really varations of number 205. opc made a mistake while printing number 205 and marked number 214 on the back all the time hence making number 214 appear on three different cards on there first printings (two on the back and one on the front). opc then corrected the second printing run by adding the number 205 to the front of the double trophy card but the back of this card still had the number 214. neither vertion is more rare as they both have about an equal printing run. hope this helps. see photos here of all three front and back to further understand.

Puzzle

May 15 2007, 1:40 PM

Veering slightly off topic, but does anyone know what cards make up the Esposito puzzle ? I have the Orr puzzle from this year but didn't know that there were others. The Orr is 206, 208-210 inclusive, 212, 213, 218, 225, 226, 230 and 231; the only way I could build it was to have 2 Savards (the #210 card); not sure if this is correct or if there is actually another card that is supposed to go in that spot. But I didn't realize that there were other puzzles, I thought Orr was the only one. Is Espo the only other one from that year ?

Hey Bobby, your right. You may need to investigate and inclulde these variances in your next book.

Dave, thanks for the wealth of information and the photos. Much appreciated and as Bobby mentioned, we are learning something new everyday about our hobby thanks to this forum and its members.

Thx, Lyle

1969 # 205

May 15 2007, 9:50 PM

Hi,

In my experience with the 1969 # 205 error (# 205 on front) it would seem it is much rarer than the other #214's by far. I am not privy to actual print runs but I have been collecting for 20+ years and have actively tryed to seek this card out, but have only found 3 examples of it in any condition. I have held thousands of 1969 cards over the years and probably 30-40 # 214's. So I ask the question...does it have the same print run? Hmmmmm!

hmmm #205

May 16 2007, 9:32 PM

rob, the one with the 205 on the front is a correction of the error #214 double trophy card, i would not call it an error as it is corrected on the front of the card. because it was corrected in the second printing it is likely a shorter print run card but also everyone that has a set of the 1969 opc keep that card and sell off the one without the number on the front as they do not care to keep the varation of an error. this is another reason why we see more of the error #214 card.i have been a collector for 37 years and the corrected #205 is around but do too being held in sets it is a lot tougher than the #214 error card.

high series vending sets had error cards

May 19 2007, 7:29 PM

If you take a look at the pop reports, there are far more versions of the NNO Mr Hockey (#193) and the #205 uncorrected Espo TW.....most of that vending material was high quality, and coupled with the many doubleprints (including NNO Howe) there are many 9's out there.....Far fewer for the corrected versions of each.

Complicating things immensely, is PSA's carelessness in labeling these cards. You can assume the the pop report for #214, the Espo AS, is greatly overstated.
