Bobby I have some in my book as well.I didn't realize how difficult they were to find.In the Newest annual price guide I don't understand how they are priced.I see the Orr at $2,500.00 & if found in a panel of three how would you price the item.Would you add up the value per player,I see it says add 50% value.Just image finding the twelfth panel, just never know & too think I used to buy those as kids probably threw them away which answers the question as to their scarcity
ralph those prices you have there must be from the yearly beckett. they are out to lunch with those prices. the bazookas go for much more than they state. the last one on ebay that was a common and graded a psa 1 sold for over $400. also i have been offered $10000 for my bobby orr single so the $2500 book price is way off. finding them as 3 card panels is extremly rare and a panel with commons would run about $1500+ with stars very high $$$'s. bobby's book has the photos of some of my bazookas. you should get his book.
Ralph, its funny, I don't remember seeing these offered at any of the stores I went to and I live and grew up in Toronto.
I remember I shifted from buying cards in 1971-72 and started to buy the Toronto Sun Photos.
There were so many releases through this year, colgate heads, post cereal shooters, eddie sargent and we can't forget the Mac's Milk sports center which had so many of the Sporticature items for sale, no wonder these are tough to find!
Pricing is so difficult when your lucky to see one of these cards come up once a year or so, but Donald is right, book prices aren't well represented in the "food issue" type of collectibles, sometimes even for cards, go look up a Brit Selby No Trade, think its still $20 bux, it should be at least $200 minimum...
Ah well, its a fun hobby none the less, maybe one day I will find an unopened case of the 1971 Bazooka gum boxes!?!?
hey mike that offer was for real. you probably know the guy.true story-was at the expo about 10 years ago and a guy did not believe i had one,he asked to bring it the next day and i did, then he made me the offer. but i said no. lot of coin back then but lucky i kept the orr bazooka because i have not seen one since and it is my center piece of my orr collection.
First to Donald I would love to see a scan of the Orr card you have & like I stated guys I didn't know a lot about those cards and the prices & yes those prices I stated were from the annual guide the newest edition.Hope to see a scan.Bobby yes those Bazooka boxes were sold here in the states but I was not into Hockey then so I am sure they got tossed. We would buy the box of gum & my Mom would put it in a glass cannister & the box just got tossed which is what probably happened to a lot of the boxes.I think i have some of the bazooka joe comics which are worthless to myself ,what I would do to find an Orr.Keep the replies coming & if anyone has a scan of any of the players I'd be interested in seeing them.
Thanks. :D
Hey Dan; I remember that incident and I know the buyer quite well. I thought the offer was $1.000.00 but if you were offered 10k, that is a lot of money for a piece of cardboard.
Let's keep things in perspective here. Yes, these cards are tough to find but they are not the holy grail.
I recently witnessed a sale between a veteran dealer and a seasoned buyer go down and the deal was 11 of the 12 panels, or in other words, 33 of the 36 cards including the Orr for $15,000.0 USD
Are they rare?? Yes, but there is a limit to all of this stuff.
mike i still wouldnt sell it for $10000 anyways. some people pay that for a few commons graded psa 9 or 10, each to there own,as those are just pieces of cardboard too. LOL
Hey Dan / Donald; I entirely respect your decision not to sell as there is always a crossroads with collectibles. At the end of the day you have to ask yourself what would make you happier. If the card brings you more joy than the $$ then by all means, don't sell.
I have been in this game for a long time and compared to what my mutual funds have done (or not done) over the last how many years, the appreciation on my card collection starts to look pretty good. All that to say that in the end you may be the genius after all.
