All right guys. This has been on my mind for the last couple of days and I'd like to get your opinions on it. We are talking about cards that ARE graded, not a "what if this card was in high grade" question. What graded card do you know of right now that you think would bring the biggest sale if it was offered?
We all know about Gregg's Vezina and the C56 #37 Lalonde, but are there any other gems out there that would rival these 2 if they were offered right now.
Thanks.
how about the mint 9 orr rookie test card. how do you think it would stack up against the mint 9 vezina and the #37 lalonde? if curious about the forums opinion. signed fessgreg
You're right Paul. I misread the question. The top cards already graded other than the Vezina and Lalonde are the Orr 9 and the Gretzky 10. Not sure how maybe something like a Howe rookie has done. Jim.
According to the POP report for PSA. There is one PSA 9 '51 Parkhurst Howe. You folks might know the background on that card. It would be interesting to know the history on that card or if it has even been sold after grading.

There is also a 1951 Parkhurst Terry Sawchuck that's a PSA 10. I also wonder what the 1924 Champ's Cigarettes Howie Morenz that's a PSA 8 would do. I don't believe these cards were offered publicly yet.
there is a psa 9 51 parkhurst howe rc. i have the other mint 9 which is a sgc 96. i would be thrilled to get 50k for it. i paid 15k for it exactly a year ago from BMW. Brian said i got a steal. but i don't know what its worth now. 50k seems like a lot. the orr test rc in sgc 96(only mint 9 example by either service)was offered to me a year ago by BMW for 100k. i don't know what he wants for it now. signed fessgreg

We are all just guessing here - hopefully we will see some of these cards come up for auction. I would love to see what they would fetch.
I think Greg is right - my price of $50,000.00 for a Howe PSA 9 is too much - maybe more like $25,000.00 but the Sawchuck in PSA 10 - wow! That would go quite high!! probalby in the $10,000.00 - $20,000.00 range and quite possibly more.
Also, what do people think about a Bobby Hull RC PSA 9 - there are only "3." I think if thast was up for auction I could see it going to $35,000.00 easy! Harvey from AJ Sports world sold a PSA 8 for $17,000.00.
In Mastro's last auction the Hull RC psa8 sold for a little over $10000. Seventeen thousand for the same graded card is way out of whack if it indeed sold for that amount.
A few months back Harvey had a psa 8 Hull listed a few times on Ebay with a BIN for 15000. To the best of my knowledge it did not sell for that amount. If he did sell it for 17000, the buyer could have saved 2000 buying it off ebay.
well the hull has 3 9's and the howe has 2 9's. mastro sold a 8 hull rc for 10k and i think it was memory lane or goodwin who sold a 8 howe rc for 9500. i think each in 9 is worth about 25k-30k. maybe the howe a little more since there are less 9's. but both are great cards. with high grade cards its what someone is willing to pay since there is not a good gauge so 17k for a 8 hull rc is believable. signed fessgreg
I would take anything Harvey says with a grain of salt. I've dealt with him many times, and the truth is not always on the top of his 'to do' list. I do not believe that he sold his Hull for 17k when he has listed it at on at least 4 separate occasions for 15k with no takers.
Generally, cards in the major auction houses sell for more. The PSA 8 Howe that sold for over 9k was double the going rate. I can remember 3 that have sold on ebay over the past 1+ year, and they all sold below 5k.
Greg, I remember only a few years ago when 51 Howe's in PSA 8 were selling for only $4,000-4,500. Doubling your investment in just a few years is pretty impressive. Let's see where these sales will be when the season starts and people start paying more attention.
I cannot be surprised at some of the recent sales of some high end vintage, it just tells us that people in our hobby are paying attention and that our hobby is continuing to prosper.

I wonder...when we are talking about $10,000 to $15,000 how many people are out their in the market for these high grade cards? I would like to be in that category but unfortunatley I have to stay in the mid range level. But I guess all it takes it two people with deep pockets wanting the same hockey card to put the price of a PSA 9 Howe or Hull to go through the roof.
By the way this is enjoyable. I haven't been on the site for a long time and I missed these types of discussions. You guys know your stuff, I always learn something.
well all levels of the hockey card market have gone up,including the high end. i enjoy the scans of everyones cards. i still remember andrew's psa 5 #36 lalonde. very good colors. signed fessgreg
