He takes a break every few months, but then he's back with a vengeance! I always wondered whether he was affiliated with simgin, or whether it was just a coincidence that they both had incredible inventories and they were both from Quebec. I seem to recall they ran "joint" auctions on ebay a couple years ago.
Anyway, I find capsports2000 has excellent items and sometimes has really cool oddball stuff, although he tends to overgrade a bit. I have bought from him in the past and will do so again.
I also have wondered how he keeps his inventory up. And yes he does have some amazing oddball items. With regards to his grading I also have experienced overgrading on occasion but I just pay more attention to the pics rather than his stated grade. It almost seems like he has several employees with different standards when listing his material as I doubt 1 person could keep up. Maybe this would explain the variation of grading that I and others have experienced?
Totally agree with the grading --- his beautiful is .... well, i guess it's like a one night stand,it's all in the eye of the beholder.(cough) .... but he does provide large crystal clear pic's !!!
also he's got some fantastic(hockey, baseball) patches up now .... anybody know what these are ??
Hi,
The way he keeps his inventory up is that he is all around in the province of Québec looking to buy stuff from everybody. He rents some Hôtel place, put an add in the local newspaper and look for to some people to show up at the appropriate date. When people show up with some stuff, he buy s it all in a large lot, most of the time. Some week end, he does well. Some others are tougher. That s why he sells all kind of stuff and also in any condition, from poor to nearmint-mint. When i ve met him (only once), about one year ago, this is what he was doing for living. At least partially.
He his a good guy and a honest seller. Even if i think his own grading words are a bit above, he always put great pictures of the product to sell. Also, all auctions starts ay very low prices. So everyone can judge from himself.
I KNOW capsport personally and he are in buisiness since many time. his house is full of stock:) and his job is search and sold stock . simgin have a store in quebec city. but it is a fiend of capsport, i know this 2 guy personnaly and it is 2 great dealer and great person.
To say that the items in that listing are NM-MT is INSANE!!
He should read how cards are graded before falsely stating such things. I can't believe he would state that high of a grade when they are nothing more than Poor or PSA 1

I agree it was an oversight by an employee. Beside's when you are supplied a quality scan like that you should have a good look at the cards prior to bidding. If you bid on them based on an obvious error then you deserve to get duped!
Hey...take a chance maybe the scan is wrong. LOL!
I have seen many error's by capsports2000 on his cards! But he does supply quality scans!
ie. He will list several cards from any given year all receiving the same grade and with most being that stated grade, but a few are without doubt of lesser grade and obviously an oversite in the auction listing. But ebayer's still place a bid determined by the higher grade given in the listing.
Just because there are more negative posts than positive ones, generally, regarding eBay and eBay sellers, I thought I would give some props to capsports2000. I've never purchased anything from them before but recently picked up a couple of items and was amazed at how fast they shipped, considering they had about 5000 auctions running at the time I won mine (three separate items). I was expecting to wait a couple of weeks but got them in less than one week. Well packaged too. Just some old raw cards but they look just like the scans.
I returned an item to them once with just cause after purchasing quite a few things in the past and they blocked me from bidding on anything else.. sucks..
I met Sylvain (eBay: Capsports) recently in one of his meeting. He travels through the province of Québec and buy vintage collectibles from town to town. I found him rather more businessman and less friendly than other sellers but honest. He doesnt seem to have a local store, but I know his office to be in Lévis (suburbs of Québec).
Simon Bourque (eBay: Simgin) holds a store (Hobby Sports Collections) in Ste-Foy and will open another one very soon in Beauport which are full of hockey vintage (mainly raw cards)(both in suburbs of Québec city). TPM and L'Imaginaire are two others big cards stores from Québec city and probably bigger than Simgin ones !.
It's incredible how fast those guys (especially Capsports) can complete
all (or near) sets (including inserts and food issues) from 1951 to 1988 times over times and over times (and often pre-war too).
The true bottomless pit is not those guys, but the ''Belle province de Québec'' and its flooding hockey memorablia.
This is a good example of why it is important not to trust Capsports2000 grading or at least take it with a grain of salt. He does supply good pics for corners/edges but not good for surface imperfections! Probalby about 25% of the cards I have purchased from him in the past had a flaw like a crease or flaw that was not mentioned when in fact they stated there was no issues.
I am constantly amazed at the prices he realizes for raw cards. I have huge stock of very nice raw cards and cannot get 1/2 of what he gets for junk???
I've had similar problems recently with some of capsports2000 "68-69 opc vending mint" cards. Rear corner creases on one, deep factory creasing on the other. Scans don't pick that stuff up. I asked politely for a refund minus shipping but no response ever came...
As I've stated before on this site, I've almost stopped buying raw cards through the mail, no matter the price, because of similar concerns about overgrading. Even some of the major vintage dealers are guilty of this.
It may be easy to miss a corner crease, a wax stain, or factory creasing if a dealer is selling in high volume, but when the same dealer is also selling psa cards by the thousands, I believe it is a deliberate attempt to sell crap as nr-mt or nm-mt and save the real high grade cards for psa.
As a person who prefers raw cards, I'm not looking to cash in on flipping the card as a psa 8 when I purchase it. So when I get junk and an attitude like "what did you expect for high book?" I get upset. List the raw card as ex-mt or nr-mt and depending on the card, I'll pay high book if I trust you.
You can be an honest grader and still get a decent return on cards. Once buyers trust your grading, they'll bid. For one, I think Rob sets an example to be followed grading-wise. As he's said before, all it takes is one good look at a card to pass on the condition to the potential buyer.
I agree 100% with Natanael and thank you for the kind words! If a seller sells a vast amount of graded cards then why would he sell a NM-MT card raw? Only if it does not meet this grade IMO otherwise he would send it out for grading. The flaw may be minor and not picked up by the vast majority of the collector's but it is still a flaw and thus overgraded. Grading is subjective but if you disclose any and all faults on the card then the grade does not matter....it is at the eye of the beholder and both parties can be happy!
It is true that the raw card market has fallen off much to my disappointment as I also appreciate a raw card as much better than a graded card...but who can sneeze at the prices realized. I have had much deliberation about sending my cards in for grading. I have huge stacks of awesome cards not even listed on my webpage that should be graded.
As Joe said I also thought about contacting Sylvain (Capsports2000) on the 74-75 Set but decided against it as I did not want to be disappoionted with the lack of response.
Good points re: grading. I prefer nice raw cards but I am less inclined to buy them from established sellers now because of how pervasive grading has become. Case in point, a seller (well established; someone that most people here have probably dealt with) was offering a raw card that I really wanted, had it listed as NM, or NM+ or NM-, something like that, and I could have had it for a fraction of what it would go for in graded NM condition. But I couldn't bring myself to do it because I know that, judging from their other auctions, they must make a major submission to PSA every month. So, given that they know what the card would fetch in a PSA7 or even 6, why didn't they include it in one of their submissions ? Scan looked great...
I used to buy raw cards exclusively. I really like the fact that when a beautiful old card arrived and I wanted to put it into a new sleeve and toploader, that I got to actually touch my own card! Now almost all of my cards are graded.
I won't buy raw cards 99% of the time. I also know established dealers who sell mostly graded cards. But then they will list raw cards on their own websites as NrMint or MrMint/Mint! I finally saw the dealer in question send a card to PSA 2 times. He swore that it was a PSA 7, but it came back 2 or 3 times as a PSA 6. Finally he just cracked it out and put it on his website as NrMint! From the scan, it did look nice, but if PSA is coming back with the same grade on multiple occasions, then there is probably something wrong with the card that is keeping it from earning that PSA 7. I'm afraid that is the "business" side of selling cards for a living. Many dealers buy a lot of raw cards and send them in for high grades to sell or a big profit. But when a high dollar card comes back with a lower than expected grade, then some dealers will sell it raw to make back some of their money.
It's fine to sell the card raw, but list it as ExMint+ or ExMint/NrMint. I think that is a fair compromise. (If a card comes back as a PSA 6 instead of the expected PSA 7.)
Capsports always has an amazing range of items, ships well and promptly and provides excellent scans of items...BUT I wish they would drop their inaccurate, incomplete and misleading descriptions.....BEAUTIFUL seems to mean everything from NMt all the way to Poor..their grades are highly inaccurate and inflated (in some cases almost laughable)....if they can't describe and grade accurately because of their incredible volume of items they shouldn't even try to do so.....I'd rather see the description merely as "see scan".....great dealer otherwise but this is very annoying........
