Can I ask you folks about an auction I bid on today? I've been looking for a Worters autograph, and I bid on an autographed hockey stick (item #180161346592). I lost to a buyer with feedback of 6. To be frank, I underbid and did not really expect to win. However, I did note something that surprised me. I checked the buyer's prior purchases, and he bought a Jacques Plante autographed Blues program 8/20/07 (Item #300142158682). Now the SELLER is selling that same item (item #180163764621)! Is this just coincidence, or do you really think the buyer and seller are the same person? I'm guessing everything was legit, but could you offer your thoughts on this one?
Well, look up both auctions and see what you think. The earlier auction mistakenly labels the program as being a 68-69 Blackhawks program. The later auction shows the picture at an angle, but if you look at all the pictures, I'd bet they are the same program. However, could the person who bought the program 8/20/07 have simply sold the program to the person who's selling it now? I don't know. Any more thoughts?
I noticed this as well. I thought it was a bit suspicious looking, but it is probably just coincidence. He outbid me as well for the stick and for the Earl Seibert signed photo. He bought a bunch of stuff from that seller, but I think it may be all coincidence. Probably just consigned to the seller.
David:My guess is that 75% of the second chance offers you may receive from an E-bay seller result from cases where a seller bid on his own items to drive the price up. In those cases he is guessing how high he can go. When he overbids then he comes back to you and offers a second chance to bid on a "duplicate" item. Most of the time I decline these offers unless I am fairly certain that a seller is legit.
Just to clear up the situation, the seller who was originally in question did in fact consign that program to capsports. I have dealt personally with him and he does this quite often. His feedback is now up to 70 and he is a quality person to deal with.
"How come eBay lets people register if they have the same address/credit card. I think there should be some way to stop people from having more than 1 account!"
Everyone should be allowed to have as many accounts as they can manage. A lot of sellers have a separate account for buying. When the new feedback rules start there is going to be hell to pay for the sellers that didn't have the patience to wait for payment from me. I have a couple dozen sellers who are going to be roasting and any rude seller will also suffer. It will be great to have perfect feedback again!
