Great article. Encouraging competition for vintage stuff isn't something most people would do.
Beckett is so odd these days, publishing articles about vintage from well respected hockey dealers/collectors, but not providing actual pricing. Sort of the MTV route- A music television station with no music.
Vintage isn't priced accurately, the graded section for vintage is half a page, and their $15 hockey guide and their "graded card investor" guide are no help either.
Nathanael,
Responding to your post "Encouraging competition for vintage stuff isn't something most people would do."
I enjoy writing article to help inform more collectors about the other wonderful items that are in the hobby and may not have had a chance to appreciate enough. Competition is the spice of life.
I was surprised he posted my checklist and prices, as I told Al Muir it will conflict quite a bit with what prices he has in the Beckett.
I buy Beckett once a year to keep up to date with vintage raw cards prices.
I neither buy it for its vintage era articles nor for the high graded vintage
cards prices. Beckett is performing too poorly in these two areas. Could it be
that promotional $$$ given by card manufacturers orients the business toward
new stuff?
It's like the lack of presence of graded cards at hockey cards shows. If old
card dealers travelling across US and Canada don't like the presence of graders
on their playing field, it will take time for the market to adjust.
On the long run, if alot of investing money goes into vintage cards, these
participants will have to adjust!
Hi All; I think this is normally meant to go in the BST area but due to the timing of this post and the article coming out I thought I would give everyone a heads up on the following.
I have 55 different Chex pictures closing early this evening if anyone is interested. Thanks, Mike Q. / Qcards
hey bobby, just picked up the beckett and read your article, well done as always. i hope the beckett does these vintage articles more often. mike - nice chex photos you have there!!
I will have to run to the store and pick this issue up. Once again Bobby adds to the hobby knowledge base! Keep up the great stuff. It seems the field is empty otherwise.
Now that the eBay Chex grouping is closed I can also say thanks to Mike Q for allowing us the opportunity to fill those empty toploaders with these goodies.
As you can gather, this is my favorite set from the early sixties....
