Another Ebay complaint

I was bidding on this Bossy Rc PSA 9. My high bid was trumped which was $401. So I use that $401 for some other cards I wanted. I get a second chance message from the seller...either he has another PSA 9 Bossy or the buyer didn't come thru, but I can purchase it for $401. Here is my complaint, maybe I'm wrong. It is true that my high bid was $401 but I think the all of the other bidders bids should be rejected, not just his highest. Me and the high bidder exchanged bids from $305 to winning price of $406. If he doesn't bid I get the card at $305. Maybe I'm wrong or not making any sense. I just think it would be easy to shill bid past the max a real bidder will pay then offer a second chance offer to the actual bidder now that you know you have maxed out the bids. Maybe I said too much, if the bidder and seller are on this site I will know about it soon.

What do you folks think?

hi dean.i just checked the winning bidder and see he is from australia.

the seller is from canada,so i dont think there was any shill bidding involved.

maybe you can explain to the seller what you just told us that you could have gotten that card for $305.he may agree with you and sell it to you for that price.good luck dean,Donald.

Bossy RC PSA 9

I was watching that auction, but I didn't ever bid on it. I was a little surprised by how high it went actually.

I understand your point, but you can't be sure that this is a case of shill bidding, or the buyer not paying. It could be that the seller actually has more than one Bossy PSA 9. If that is the case, then he is completely justified in offering the card at $401.

Basically, you did bid $401 and were willing to pay that much for the card. If you aren't willing to spend that much now, then you aren't under any obligation to buy it. Obviously, the seller is trying to make as much money as possible, so I can't imagine him dropping 25% off the price because a bidder doesn't pay. Hopefully, most sellers will be honest when they are selling, but that isn't always the case.

If I really wanted the card, then I would be happy to have this opportunity and I would buy it. I can't count the number of cards that I could have gotten for next to nothing if not for 1 bidder who pushed up that price and then dropped out, only to leave me with a much higher total price! That's just eBay. It isn't like buying something in a store.

If you really feel that the seller may be trying to cash in with a shill bidder, then don't buy it. You will probably have a chance to buy it again eventually.

Good Luck

Thanks guys, your reasoning is sound. I should point out that I really wasn't accusing him of shill bidding, just saying that it was possible. And, yes at the time I was willing to go that price, I should have hung on to the funds. I appreciated the feedback, sometimes a guy just needs to vent.

I agree with you completely! I have had the same thing happen, Yes I was willing to pay $ X amount of dollars BUT if that winning bidder didn't bid, I would have gotten it for much less, so really my second chance offer should be my highest bid that had a legit bid under it. However, eBay makes money off fees so they keep the highest price because its more money for them, plain and simple. I have emailed sellers on a few occasions and told them I don't think its right and most bring their prices down for me.

another e-bay complaint

I would always refuse a second chance offer unless the seller agreed to sell at my last bid. I have no doubt that many shady sellers on E-bay shill bid to drive up the selling price. On the other hand, I've had one seller contact me several times on second chance offers and sold me duplicate lots at my last bid which was quite a bit below the high bidders. In that case I'd have to say the high bidder paid way too much.
