E-bay sellers-Feedback

They say things go through streaks so I guess I'm in one now! I go months without filing any negative feedback on a seller and then it seems like every time I turn around now I'm doing it again! Just got a package of 67 cards from the 73/74 Topps set. The seller listed them as ex-mt. Of the 67 cards 37 of them were Creased! Some badly. The seller had 100% feedback but only showed 64 transactions. I e-mailed him and told him that I had based my bid on his statement that the cards were ex-mt and his 100% feedback but that I would be forced to post negative feedback because as a buyer I wouldn't want anyone else to get cards like that either. He e-mailed me back and accused me of extortion and threatened to contact E-bay. I hadn't filed the feedback at that point but that threat was all I needed and I have done so now. You know, the dollar amount of the cards wasn't even that bad but I wouldn't have bid on those cards had they been described correctly. He also said no duplicates but there were two and both were creased, 7 other cards were no better than vg and 1 wasn't even Topps but was OPC. Of the 67 cards only 20 were actually ex-mt. I know a lot of you guys in this forum sell on E-bay but you wouldn't actually expect me to just meekly accept this would you. I know that as soon as I post negative feedback that he will retaliate with same but I've had over 7300 feedback comments and every negative I've had has been retaliatory feedback from my negative filing on them. Anyone want to comment?

I think you should forward the email from him to eBay, not like it will do anything but maybe they will keep it on file if he keeps doing this to people. I hope you paid with paypal and can file an easy claim online and get your money back quickly. I only have like 250 feedbacks but with 3 negatives my rating is like 95%, totally unfar! One of my negatives came from a 15 feedback buyer complaining that the PSA graded Gretzky was a fake, and the other negatives were from a seller who sold me 20 tampered Topps hockey packs. I wish there was a moderator on eBay who would listen to problems like ours. Its just not right that we suffer even though we are perfect sellers and buyers!

Moral of the story is (i've also learned the hard way).....never take anyone's word on the grade, especially with unknown /new sellers....ask questions , ask questions, ask questions. You should get a good feel of the seller just from a response(if you get one). Also I'm assuming the seller didn't have a return policy??

My favorite auction line is .... im not a professional grader, so please view the scan to determine the grade. YA SURE.... PASS ME THE HUBBLE TELESCOPE because there isn't a person alive that could make an assessment from the crappy picture provided. Probably easier just to avoid these as 98% of the time you'll be in for major disappointment..........

Joe,
OK--I love the hubble telescope line! That was actually one of the funniest lines I have heard on this Forum! I started laughing out loud on that line!
I totally agree with what you are saying too. I hate when sellers pull the "I'm not a professional grader..." line. That's when they include a small scan that doesn't give you any chance to actually see the card. I have tried emailing the sellers to ask about the conditon, but their response is usually so vague that you don't know any more before than you did after they responded!

Ted,
I agree with what you did in this instance. It's cases like this that eBay's new feedback policy makes sense. This seller obviously misled you about the condition of the cards. Once you contacted him, he should have just given you a refund. (Especially if it wasn't that much money.)
It's just not worth fighting over and ending up with negative feedback.
The whole "extortion" line is ridiculous! You just asked to return the cards and get a refund. That isn't extortion--it's a simple refund! It sounds like this guy knew what he was doing. Very few people don't realize that creased cards are not ExMint!

"I wish there was a moderator on eBay who would listen to problems like ours"

Andrew, you must be kidding. Vintage Hockey represents 0.000001% of eBay. 10 thousands moderators would not be enough to handle all people's problems.

Just ask for refund, return card(s), and lose on shipping.

Its not the buying I have a problem with, its the selling feedbacks! I know I am a perfect seller, I ship pretty much same day 99.999% of the time. I want a moderator for feedbacks that have issues. I don't care if I have to wait a month to get it removed but I don't deserve any of the negatives I have. I know eBay would be swamped with feedback problems but it would be worth the wait.

[I know I am a perfect seller, I ship pretty much same day 99.999% of the time. ]

I ship for free to buyers and have a 4.7 DSR on eBay for shipping costs. Figure that one out.
