105 card reprint set of 51/52 Parkhurst cards on E-bay

Made me sick when I saw this on E-bay this morning. Bidding on this set started out at $9.95 and is up to $70 right now. I can imagine what will happen with some of these cards. This should be illegal.

I agree ...It should be illegal, even though it's clearly mentioned as a reprint set... Ebay needs to get a handle on this crap, plain and simple it shouldn't be allowed, not to mention the seller riped off a bonafide sellers ID too boot.

I just can't make a photocopy of a $100.00 bill and sell it on ebay as a reprint .. can i ???

hi

i'm sorry but cannot agree with this.

this is not everybody who have the couples of thousand dollars to put on a set like a 1951 to be able to get it complet and some of those people prefer to have a reprint set instead of nothing. At least you can enjoy the card like we did when we were young without thinking of the money behind that like today.

But, putting reprint cards on sale without saying that it's reprint, that is a problem.

no ?

51/52 Parkhurst Reprint set

March 9 2008, 9:11 AM

Sorry Daniel but I think you are being naive here. I don't know what the final bid on this set is but when the bid starts out at less than $0.10 a card and quickly jumps from $10.00 to $70.00 it tells me that some people have evil plans for these cards. I have no problem with Parkhurst's reprints from the early 90's that clearly said on the cards that they were reprints. This set does not say that. The size and paper stock are identical to the originals. Some enterprising individuals are going to pass these off as originals. Some may even take it a little further by slightly roughing them up and giving them even a little more originality. You can be sure that any time a seller says that "I picked this card up at a garage sale and make no claims to it's originality" or that "I'm no progessional card grader so I'm selling these as is" that you won't be getting the real thing.

Reprints

I have to agree with Ted here. If the cards aren't marked as reprints, then it's too easy to sell them as genuine cards.

I bought a reprint set of C56 cards once, but the whole thing was less than $10. If someone is willing to pay a lot for reprints, then they probably do have the intention of selling them as raw cards. Even if you rounded the corners a little, it wouldn't take long to make your money back and a large profit with 105 cards!

These cards should be stamped as reprints on the back. Then if a collector wanted to buy a reprint set just to look at, it wouldn't be an issue.

There are just too many dishonest people in this hobby.

I agree with Ted and Earl's views on this one as well. You can almost gaurantee that these cards will end up being resold with the age old classic "found them in a tickle trunk" description. Paying that kind of monies for a reprint set is crazy unless you have other intentions.

As for not being able to afford the real thing then some .jpgs should suffice until you can. They are easily obtainable.

To own a reprint set would mean nothing to me knowing the lack of history with that elusive card. Who's hands did it pass through, etc. Might as well just buy a book that depicts all the cards.

By the way I was curious and was watching that auction. I beleive it went for $305. WOW!

It should be a criminal act to reprint anything without having the reprint identifier on it as it is with paper currency. Heck cards are almost worth more than paper curency today. lol!

IMO

And I disagree...
...not with what you were saying but with this topic in general. It's totally pointless and not informative.

If you ask me what should be illegal then probably I will have a list as long as Bobby's book but who cares what I think.

There will always be dishonest people and fools.

reprint identifier-at least on this set

March 10 2008, 7:34 AM

The seller on this set sent me a scan of the back of these cards. At least on this set there is a small black dot on the back right hand side near the middler of the card. I can't say if this will hold true on every one of these sets, though.

reprint sets

They should make more reprint sets that are indistinguishable from the vintage cards, so collectors can see what a real vintage card should look like. If newbie collectors can't tell them from the real thing, then they need to educate themselves more.

Speaking of reprints...

March 18 2008, 3:54 PM

Does anyone know of a site that gives high res examples of fake cards when compared to real ones.
It would be nice to see the differences for my own eyes. It would also be interesting to keep track of all the different variations of fakes, or have they all come from the same source for cards such as the Gretzky rookie.

Quote from Larryhaven "They should make more reprint sets that are indistinguishable from the vintage cards, so collectors can see what a real vintage card should look like. If newbie collectors can't tell them from the real thing, then they need to educate themselves more."

i dont care what anyone says-reprints are bad for the hobby and you all know it!!

we all know what goes on with these reprints, when they end up in the wrong hands people sell them as the real thing.

there is a vast scope of condition out there to fit anyones budget for buying the real cards,if you cant buy a card in nrmt shape because the price is high buy one in vg shape etc......

we need more new collectors in this hobby and if a new collector buys a fake and finds out later how he/she got burnt, that collector will never return to the hobby.

i hate reprints and i hate that ebay allows reprints to be sold on there site.

105 card reprint set

April 17 2008, 12:59 PM

Joe:Yes, he does state that it is a reprint set but nowhere on the cards does it say reprint. In fact, he clearly states in his description that the set looks legit in almost every way. Daniel, no everyone doesn't have thousands of dollars to put into this set. But when the set starts out at less than $10 and winds up going for over $300, you know that somewhere along the line there is going to be some hanky-panyky and someone is going to get ripped off. Also, I've read posters in this forum who mentioned that buyers need to educate themselves. That's true in any endeavor. But just as soon as you convince yourself that you're too smart to get ripped off by someone, you're setting yourself up to do just that. Every day, so called experts get fooled by people who are just as expert in fooling experts. GO WINGS! Play 60 minutes!

Reprint Set?

July 22 2008, 5:52 PM

Noticed a couple of auction lots on ebay with the printer spot on the back that was depicted a awhile back. Noticed a few separate lots with same spot in same location on two different cards? You guys can do the search if interested. Hopefully I am wrong!

Why would someone pay 300 bucks when this guy auctions 2 sets every couple days and you can buy them off Vipercards for like 199.00 bucks?

For 300 bucks you could get a handful of mid grade commons of the real deal.
