So a few days ago a seller listed some cards that I was interested in, I emailed him and asked about one of his auctions and he replied "my eBay account was hacked, I never opened a store". I emailed him back and asked if all the auctions that were listed were fakes (the scans looked good, the PSA cert. numbers checked out, etc), he emailed me back and said I should stop harassing him or he would report me to eBay and that he has blocked me as a bidder.
If you were in my position, what would you do? Try and bid on the card you need to see if he really has you blocked? Or maybe ask a friend to bid on the auction for you?
I think it would be a mistake if you bid on this guy's auction. He sounds shady from what you say and it's not worth the hassle since he already has made up his mind about you. If you do take the risk be prepared for the BS coming your way. Just my opinion. I would rather wait and deal with reputable sellers.
100% feedback is definitely what you want. Maybe he just overreacted at your questions. I get turned off when they say things like my account got hacked. The choice is yours Andrew, just make sure it's worth it. I have had over 400 total transactions and still have 100% feedback but there were a couple of transactions where the sellers really made things hard by shipping weeks after the original purchase. I dodged a few bullets and consider myself lucky since they all worked out. One transaction took 2 months to resolve. Just don't put yourself in that position with this seller. Good luck with whatever you decide.
I have another kind of difficulty with an american seller.
4_sharp_corners-2 has a very high feedback score and would be
the dream counterparty for an EBay trade if it wasn't for his
assymetrical way of treating canadian buyers.
I saw numerous cards (over 50 in the last 3 months) I would have bid
at least $10 (sometimes $20) over the selling price. The auctions are
mostly on $25-$50 cards.
The reason I don't participate at his auctions is because of his
lack of communication. I've e-mailed him 4 times in the last 3 months to
address my concern on the payment method and got no reply!
I end up paying $35, sometimes $45 from other US EBayers who bought
the cards from him a few weeks before at ridiculous low price.
The result is this seller make $10 profit on a $25 card instead of $20 or $30.
I have dealt with 4-sharp-corners-2 and they also have 3 or 4 other user ID's all under that same name. 4-sharp-corners_store is another that I can think of.
Anyways, I bid on some of their auctions a while back as the prices on some of the cards were way too cheap for me to not to bid. I needed the cards to finish sets or complete want lisits - HOWEVER - their shipping charges are insane!!!
If you living in Canada you MUST pay by Money Order - PayPal is NOT accepted if you live in Canada. No compromise is given no matter what your feedback is - no PayPal if you live in Canada. I have emailed AND called them about accepting PayPal AND I have PowerSeller status with 99.99% feedback and they still will not accept PayPal from me!!!!
As well as the inconvience of not accepting PayPal they charge $5.00 IN ADDITON to the shipping charges to Canadian buyers as a "service charge" for "handling" the money order you send. THE WORST business practices ever!!!!
Also, I had one pacakge go missing - not a very high dollar pacakge - but they could care less that about it. As I recieved no help from them at all. THIS IS WHY THEY ONLY ACCEPT MONEY ORDERS!! That way you cannot file a claim with PayPal and they have your money.
Watch out if you are buying from these guys!!!!! Prepared to get ripped off on the shipping charges and so called "handling" charge - if you live in Canada
In case of a doubt, please abstain. And this is exactly what I've done. It's
unfortunate but I guess the big loser is the seller and/or his customers having
their cards on sale through him.
I had a run in as well with them. They charge Canadians insane prices to ship and their service is terrible. I wont bid on their auctions anymore even tho there hockey stuff goes really cheap. The should change their ebay name to 4_Rednecks.
I have had only 1 dealing with this seller. Fortunatly it worked out but not without concern. Yes their business practices are odd....but I guess it only hurts them in the long run! I will not bid on there items anymore as well.
Newenglandsportscards is another ID of theirs .... which i've dealt with numerous times. Graded cards shipped to Canada are $8.00 and Sets/Lots are $13.00 with a multiple discount of 50% for additional buys ......so 2 graded cards will cost @ $12.00 and $19.50 for Lots/Sets.
Actual postage (their cost)for singles via USPS INTL first class postage to Canada = $1.00
and Lots/Sets are in the $4.00 - 5.00 + range.
Overcharging and not accepting Paypal from Canada is a BIG BIG MISTAKE and it costs them dearly in the end. ....but if you factor the shipping into the final price, you can still get a decent deal, especially when you know the North of the Border bids will be few and far between, unlike capsports.
just ran across one of there hockey card auctions. $8 shipping + $5 handling fee (canadians only) and money order payments only (canadians only).
ouch thats a large total, especially if you have to pay for a money order it can be close to a $20 total just for these charges before you bid,OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!
i still do not see why some americans hate dealing with canadians?
some american sellers do real well on there auctions because they shipp worldwide which = good business and more bids and money!

Here's the main problem : If you are shipping to Canada, the only way that you can track the package is if you send it via registered mail or express mail, and the price starts at $10 and goes up from there.
Paypal is great for buyers, but if you are the seller, the only way that Paypal will find in your favor if the buyer opens a dispute is if you can prove the package was delivered and signed for.
While I certainly agree that 4SC is leaving money on the table by not accepting Paypal from Canadian buyers, I can understand the reasoning behind it.
Your point is well taken and very valid. But I still think these guys (4SC) are crazy in theire business practices.
You can't tell me that just because you can't track a package to Canada that they will not accept PayPal. I have done business with 100's of seller from the U.S. and no pacakges were lost.
They may have a valid concern but it is not warrented to have the buinsess practices that they have.
They could at least have reasonalbe shipping charges?? I mean $8.00 for one graded card is insane - since it only costs at most $3.50 for the envelope with the shipping changes!!! PLUS they charge $5.00 on top of that for "handling" your money order.
THESE GUYS HAVE THE WORST POLICY ON EBAY - HANDS DOWN!!!
