Georges Vezina V145-?

I know someone who has a Georges Vezina card that I could get for what I think would be a good price. It's a V145 card, but I don't know if it's #19 or #43. It has a hole punched in it and on the back of the card, there's a CANCELLED stamp along with a date (??? ??? 1924). I take it that card was redeemed along with a Bert Corbeau for whatever could be won by sending in the whole set, and then returned to its owner. There is some paper loss on the back though (from being glued in a book and then removed, I guess), so you can only see the last few letters of the word CANCELLED and the year it was redeemed (1924), and not the complete date. I don't think the card has any creases, or if it has some, they definitely don't take away from the beauty of the card, as I haven't noticed them. The card is not graded either.

What do you think a card like that could sell for, very approximately? It looks really good when looking at its front (except for the punch hole)... Any ideas?

I wish I had scans to show, but I don't. But if I can get the card for a nice price (and you guys can tell me what an approximate value would be for a card like that), then I might buy it and show you scans!

To get punched card you had to send back the full set to the company and they were sending them back to you along with a pair of skate. You also have to get the super rare Bert Corbeau card to acheive this. From what I heard the value of a punched card is more then the regular value of the card. It seems they are really rare. I don't know how they translate in real value but if you can get a good deal on it. same price then a regular one in the same shape, I would definitely jump on it.

Good luck happy.gif

I have seen these cards with and without punch hole. PSA will grade them punched, but gives them a qualifier and lowers the grade. I can't believe that anyone would say a card is worth more punched. The goal of all collectors is to find a card in original condition. Most of the time, these cards just had a hole punched in them. If you really wanted, you could get a hole punch and put a hole in the card. (Not that I would recommend it!)

It's impossible to give a price without seeing the card, but don't believe anyone who tells you that a card with a hole in it is worth more than a card without any damage!

too late! I took a 3 hole punch to all my cards.....

yes, I agree that it would be unusual for a hole to increase the value of the card...what if the punch hole is thru the player's face?

Does a wax boxe increase in price in a similar fashion when a hole
is punched through it?

not such a bad thing

Respectively speaking, I think what he was trying to say about the holes punched in a card being dated is, if graded with a hole, the max you could get is a 1 (fair poor) which is worth more than a 1 without a hole and date, probably even a two, considering without the hole the card would be about a 4 or better.

There is a lot of historical significant to this early set regarding the redemption, so I would be happy with a full set minus 1 with the holes and date on them at a reasonable price.

Here is the Vezina probably in question.

Dan, I lost my archives in 2003 when my computer crashed, man, the stuff I would have had, right now I have about 40 gigs of mostly hockey stuff on file. Always try to save stuff that seems important.
