Which major set from the 50's is the more difficult to build-on in high-grade condition ?
With hard colors on bottom, 1954 Topps and 1955 Parkhurst are tough, being condition-sensitive, but my question is about the 1952 Parkies:
Is it me or they are harder than other issues to find in high-grade?

I post about regular issue...(not about 55 Quaker SPs happy.gif)

Hi,

The 1952 Pakhurst set is very hard to put together in high-grade (PSA 7 and up). If you check the population reports from the PSA website you will see that they are very low compared to other Parkhurst releases.

I think that 1952 Parkhurst is the hardest of all the Parkhurst set to put together followed VERY close by 1955 Parkhurst.

Both the 1952 & 1955 Parkhurst are very challeging to put together but I have to give a slight edge to 1952 Parkhurst.

On the PSA Set Registry there are NO complete 1952 Parkhurst sets but there are 2 current complete 1955 Parkhurst sets so it gives you an idea how hard it is (when comparing the 2 sets).

Difficult indeed

I've started building this set in high grade 2 years ago.
Up to now, I was able to get 19/105 cards in either PSA 7-8 or BVG 8.

You will only see 1 or 2 PSA8 offered on Ebay every other month.
PSA7 are much easier to find, with 4-5 available per month.

I still did not figure out why they are so much more 51s than 52s?

I give myself another 14 years to complete the set.

AJsports has put his partial set on sale a couple of months ago but
at $300 per card, I guess it was only for the show.

I'm always interested in buying some of these cards...

51'vs 52's

Hi,

Just a guess, but possibly Parkhurst over printed 51's and thus cut back production of the 52's based on this. My theory is due to the fact that they used uncut 51 sheets to make boxes for 52's?

Just a theory!

Parkhurst Numbers

February 21 2009, 10:42 PM

1951-52 Parkhurst produced 25,000,000 (million) cards in 1952-53 and 1953-54 they average about 18,000,000 (million) cards. So about 1/3 less cards were made in the second and third year production than the first.
