Does anyone know about the individual trophies that each player receives when they win the Stanley Cup? I remember seeing one in an auction once a long time ago. It looks like the Stanley Cup only about 25% of the size????
It was back in the 1957-58 season that the players first received the mini cup as we know it now. The first team to offer it was the Montreal canadiens for their third championship in a row. They didn't give mini cups for the following two championships. Back then, the teams would often give a tray, a water pitcher, a tea set or a ring, so 1957-58 was the only year in the five straight championships that the Canadiens gave a mini cup to the players. In the 40's and early 50's some championship teams gave a Stanley Cup trophy in the shape of a "salad bowl" (the top part of the Stanley Cup) to their players.
