Just wondering what, if anything, people picked up in the Classic auction that finished early this morning? There was nothing in the auction that I needed for my collection so I picked up some doubles for potential trades. I picked up the autographs of Moose Johnson, Frank Nighbor, and Chuck Gardiner. How did everyone else do?
I bet on 3 lots and got 1 with some nice Rocket Richard items in it.
I also bought 16 high grade lots for 2 of my friends including the 1902 gold pocket watch and the Henri Richard jersey. A busy night until 6h00 am !!!
i went for the King Clancy Rookie card but lost by one bid. YUK
you really got to watch yourself when you bid as they tack on 17.5% buyers premium, (taxes and exchange rate because i am a canadian) and shipping.
thats almost a 30% premium for a canuck. YUK YUK
Congrats on the pick ups, especially some of that stuff for your friends. Did you happen to pick up the Darragh postcard or the 29-30 Maroons signed picture? That Hooper pocket watch is beautiful, I got to see that in Edmonton right after Frank had picked it up. I know the Hooper family was hoping for a ton more than what it ended up going for, I thought it was a great deal at the price you got it for.
Yes Sean I tried the Darragh but stoped bidding half way around $2500. I didn't go for the Maroons picture. Some other nice lots I decided to let go are #1 the Langlois ring and the NY Americans jersey, I thought the prices were getting too high. On the other side, I picked up the Langlois Cup (very first year for these mini Cups) and the Getliffe jersey. On the card side, I got the Joliat PSA7 just over 2X guide price, I think it's a fair price for a rare high grade Canadian Gum.
I really never considered bidding on the Darragh lot. I have some doubts about its authenticity since it looks nothing like an example I ran across in a price guide many years ago. If the minimum bid had been slightly less on the Hooper watch, I would have bid on it.
Do you happen to have a picture/scan of the Darragh you saw before? I have a Darragh that didn't look like the one in Classic either and I am looking for an exemplar for it to compare it to. I will also need it for when I send it in to PSA to get it encapsulated in my collection. If not, can I send you a scan and you can give me your opinion? Please let me know if you can help.
If you read the content of that postcard, it looks contrived (Dear friend, mother is better now. How do you like this card?) His autograph was in an early price guide that had photos of signatures next to the values. My wife threw all of them away when she was cleaning a few years back while I was at work (not happy when I later tried searching for them). Maybe someone else has a copy? I do recall that his real signature almost looked like it was printed in capital letters.

I don't really see a lot. I put in a couple of bids for the opened 61 Parkie thinking I might upgrade my wrapper collection but it went too high for my liking.
My catches? The 34 Spalding puck(too bad it was just Bruins/Sens, would have preferred Habs gamer). I also could not resist the signed watercolor of Tarasov.
Otherwise just sitting on the end of the bench here in Ohio and watching Center Ice.
