Back in 2009, I knew that the C56 set would be 100 years old in 2010. I really assumed that the modern card companies would do something in honor of the oldest hockey set ever, but I didn't ever see anything. (Even though I rarely follow modern cards.)
I did just stumble across something on eBay though. Apparently, ITG is releasing redemption cards that can be traded in for a PSA graded card from the C56 set. I have seen a few of them on eBay, and they are all 1/1. Most of the cards will be a PSA 4, but I did see 1 card that can be traded for a PSA 5. Since the C56 set only consists of 36 cards, there can only be 36 redemption cards, which won't do much to actually honor this 100 year old set.
I'm disappointed--There have been a lot of "throwback" sets made to honor/imitate some of the great older sets. This was an opportunity they really missed!
