Just wondering what i would expect to pay for a PSA 8 Gretzky rookie. I'm just getting back into collecting after a 10 year break and i'm not quite sure of the value. I don't see many 8's on ebay. Thoughts would be appreciated.
I have to agree with Danny on this one. I bought my Gretzky PSA 8 about 8+ years ago and it come $1000. The price seems to have stayed pretty consistent since then. I have seen it go for $1200 or more, but occasionally it will sell for a little under $1000. Even though everyone talks about how difficult this card can be, there seem to be plenty of them out there in decent shape. You're right, the PSA 8's don't show up on eBay every week, but you should be able to find one within a few weeks.
I cant imagine thinking a Gretzky rookie is more appealing with that awful OPC rough cut when we know that some of them did get a nice smooth cut.ALL SMOOTH CUT GRETZ ROOKIES ARE NOT ALL SHEET CUTS...LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have come to appreciate the rough cut, in moderation. It does give the card a bit of authenticity, so I don't mind a slight rough cut, but I have seen some that were downright ugly! I'm really surprised to see a Gretzky PSA 8 rookie selling for under $800! I wonder if that is due to the economy or some of these were less attractive examples.
Also, some of the cards were sold through auction houses. Seems like most people on auction houses are more interested in older, more high-end stuff.
