1966-67 to 1991-92 O-Pee-Chee + Topps Display Boxes

I recently finished my run of Display boxes from 1966 to 1991 with all the O-Pee-Chee and Topps Series.
My story behind this is that in the early 90's i finished all my sets + inserts from 1966 to 1991 and decided i needed a new challenge so i asked myself "Why not get all the Wrappers and Display boxes to make a master set of each year" well lucky i started back then as prices were dirt cheap.
Dealers used to laugh at me for asking them if they had these Wrappers or Display boxes in stock but i am glad i started back then as prices today for some of these boxes are in the thousands.
Here are photos of the complete collection.

First Photo is my run from 1968-69 to 1979-80, if you start at the bottom right corner it starts with O-Pee-Chee series 1 + 2 then Topps and so on.

Second Photo has the ultra rare 71 Bazooka box sitting on the locker from 1972 OPC and then a few other lockers with a Topps Thirst break box as well.

Third Photo has the run of 1980 to 1991 with factory boxes, sticker boxes and mini card boxes.

Fourth for number 4 Bobby Orr is my 1966-67 and 1967-68 boxes that are part of my Orr collection as 2 are from his Rookie Year and the 67 box has his name with other stars on the box.

And Fifth is the very rare 1974-75 Unmade flat box from Topps "Collect All 264 Cards" variation. The box is next to impossible to find so i settled for a Unmade flat from the Topps Vault.

When i get a chance i will do photos of the wrappers but that will take some work as i will have to take all my wrappers away from many separate binders as the wrappers are not all in one bunch like the boxes are.

"Got A Match" your to funny Bobby
just think if i ever have a fire I'll never get these boxes together again (Knock on wood or cardboard in this case)

Very Nice !

Very nice Dan, and if you happen to have a mint Mario on the bottom
of the 1985 topps box, then you certainly are one up on me.

And what's your favorite box, if you have one ?
I like the 70 series 2, and the 66.

Both my boxes have the Lemieux on the bottoms.
Looking them over the Topps box has tiny creases on the edges but the O-Pee-Chee box does fair better with Mario not having a crease but a tiny bit of surface wear.
These bottoms are tough to get in high grade as most of them were used for display.
I also have a set of the box bottoms cut away from boxes and they are in Nrmt shape with some extra border around the 4 cards for protection.

Mark my favorite box is the 1966-67 Topps box as it was the second last box i needed and it means a lot to me because it is from Bobby Orr's Rookie year but i do like many of the other ones too.

Nice stuff

I'm looking for a nice cut up or assembled 85 topps panel if you ever come
across one. You'll make a profit if its in nice shape.

Here's a nice Orr box that I once had.

Dan,

Did you follow the mastronet auction for the 1966 Topps USA Test box that
was auctioned around 5-10 years ago ? I believe it is now on ebay
for 5k ? The item sold for less then 1k I believe at the mastronet auction.

Also, I remember a bazooka box selling on ebay for around 750 US about ten years ago. I think qcards and len pottie fought for it at the end. I wonder how much that would bring today. Any ideas ?

Mark
The Test box that was on Mastro was an uncut sheet from the Topps Vault that went for under $1500, it is on ebay on and off for much more. The seller will not likely sell it for that price of $5000 because it is a sheet, collectors want the box.

Yes i remember that bazooka box selling for $750, a good friend of mine owned it and it came from the same original owner that my bazooka boxes came from. Today any Bazooka box as a complete display box will go for at least $3000-$3500 just with commons showing on the bottom but if there is a star on the bottom of the box i think it will fetch much more.
