Seems like a daunting task to complete this obscure button set. ~ anyone try, or trying ??
The Ken Dryden button has got to be a "short print" ~ are there others that are difficult to find ?? Has anyone tried to put together a comprehensive checklist ??

Dryden is not a Short Print but Duff may be

May 11 2012, 3:35 PM

Ken Dryden is not a short print, just more desirable as there are lots of Dryden collectors and he doesn't have that many issues. Dick Duff may be a short print as his pin back button is harder to find. Here is more info on the set from my web site:

These 1 3/4 inch diameter black and white pin-back buttons were issued by the Montreal Canadiens during the 1970-71 and 1971-72 seasons. They were sold at the Montreal Forum and at variety stores. There were 2 issues: The first issue shows a full body action shot of each player with the player's name in small bold print under the player. These buttons have MADE IN CANADA printed on their side. The second issue, which have FAIT AU QUEBEC on the side, show a larger image of the player and the player's name in large bold print.

Yes, in talking to older Quebec collectors, the Logo pin was part of the set.

Thanks.... I thought I had completed my set after finding the Dick Duff button.

How rare is the logo button?

ds ........
so from your experience did you find certain pins more plentiful while others more difficult to find. ?? From the posted pic, you can clearly see multiples, but i'd imagine different boards had different multiples ??

It would seem to me that all the 2nd series pins would all be tougher to find, but that doesn't explain the possible Dick Duff SP.

I did manage to acquire a few of these pins a few years ago ~ but knowing full well i would never complete the set or how many pins were in it as the info was very limited ~ they got sold off.

Outstanding display items without a doubt !!!!!!

Canadiens pinbacks

May 12 2012, 11:22 AM

Joe,

I agree, it's a great display item and with display items you can never go wrong.

Without a doubt the Duff button is the most difficult to find. It took me two years to find mine.

The others which are harder to find are the Dryden, Lafleur, Frank & Pete Mahovlich, Redmond, Lapointe and Ruel......

Two years ago, the Dryden would sell between $50.00 to $75.00......

--------------------------------------------------------

Another nice, affordable and difficult Canadiens pinback set is the one from the early 1980's...... it consists of the following nine pinbacks(Lafleur, Robinson, Lapointe, Napier, Gainey, Langway, Houle, Mondou and Seveigny/Engblom)

Dick Duff SP

May 13 2012, 1:57 PM

Would it be logical to presume that since the name of the game was to sell pins, the company may have pulled (at least most) of the Duff pins ~ since he was sold to the LA Kings in January of 1970 and no longer part of the Canadiens as the promotion unfolded.

pinback prices

Some prices from last nights pinback auction.

Looks like this set is high on collectors want list. Set went close to $1000.00. Probably a new high.

There's a couple of tough pin backs up now on ebay. The seller is located in the US and has blocked International bids (inc. Canada) Talk about leaving $$$$$$$$$ on the table.

WHAT A MAROON!!!

Although i respect the right of USA sellers to not ship to Canada, it certainly seems completely asinine to block north of the border collectors from bidding especially when it pertains to Hockey ~ NO ??

anyways, case in point just recently as noted above ~ CDN seller rocbill94 sells a Peter Mahovlich Pin (11 bids)@ $61.00 and a Guy Lapointe Pin (13 bids) @ $90.00. These two pins were listed last week by a (clueless) USA seller who didn't ship to Canada (or at least didn't adjust their shipping preferences to include Canada) ~

end results >>
P. Mahovlich = no bids @ $9.99
G. Lapointe = one bid @ $5.99

sigh

Rocbill bought a full set and sold the 23 buttons individually. He did good and got a little over $1K.
I wonder what goes through the mind on some US sellers about shipping to Canada, but it's their lost...

pinbacks and board

July 4 2013, 8:58 PM

recent sale price for these pinbacks.

I guess the premium sale price was the display board and not so much the rough condition pinbacks.
