Thin Red Line II is as bad, albeit for different reasons, as Thin Red Line I (c. 1964). Mallick ran out of money and was seen tearing large sections out of the screenplay to get to what he could afford to shoot. Even so, it bears no more resemblance to the book than the 1964 cheapie did. Both movies are fetid crap. Hollywood is now 0-2 with this great war novel. |
