Well, we've seen this before, a loyalist to Bush Sr. and the Old Guard Establishment is coming out publicly blasting Cheney, Rumsfeld and the Neocons. In this case it is Col. Lawrence Wilkersen.
This has happened before especially in the run-up to the Iraq War -- as the likes of Brent Scowcroft, Lawrence Eagleburger and James Baker made public their criticism of the Neocons. Again, both factions agreed on taking out Iraq, just the Old Guard wanted to do it the Cold War way with a coup, while the Neocons wanted a full-scale war and occupation, to proceed with the Project for a New American Century plan.
What Col. Lawrence Wilkerson says about the Cheney cabal is certainly valid and has been confirmed many times, but his praise of Bush Sr., the Iran-Contra-Iraqgate criminal who armed and financed Hussein before the Gulf War, demonstrates his slavish loyalty to Bush Sr. and his pals. It is highly likely that he is speaking on their behalf.
Vice-President Dick Cheney and a handful of others had hijacked the government's foreign policy apparatus, deciding in secret to carry out policies that had left the US weaker and more isolated in the world, the top aide to former Secretary of State Colin Powell claimed on Wednesday. In a scathing attack on the record of President George W. Bush, Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson, chief of staff to Mr Powell until last January, said: “What I saw was a cabal between the vice-president of the United States, Richard Cheney, and the secretary of defense, Donald Rumsfeld, on critical issues that made decisions that the bureaucracy did not know were being made.
“Now it is paying the consequences of making those decisions in secret, but far more telling to me is America is paying the consequences.”
Hey, Bush Sr. and gang aren't concerned about the consequences to America -- they're roaring mad because Bush Jr. and Cheney have screwed up their international business relationships.
Interesting how Wilkersen's statements come out just as Condi told the Senate that Bush Jr/Cheney "wouldn't rule out force on Syria and Iran." And just as the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported U.S. troops are illegally fighting in Syria right now.
This kind of talk really makes Bush Sr/Baker and the Old Guard really nervous, because it scares their Arab business partners, like the Saudis. Not long after the invasion of Iraq, Eagleburger said on cable tv that if Bush marched on to Iran and Syria, it would be grounds for impeachment! So now here is Wilkersen on Condi, who now may be on the wrong side of the fence as far as Bush Sr and friends are concerned.
Condoleezza Rice, the former national security adviser and now secretary of state, was “part of the problem”. Instead of ensuring that Mr Bush received the best possible advice, “she would side with the president to build her intimacy with the president”.
Could it be that in the power struggle between the Old Guard and the NeoCons, that the Old Guard now sees blood in the pending Plame indictments, which could take down Cheney and the Neocons -- and allow them to take control over Bush Jr, and therefore, the White House?
