Take a look at lot 45: "Jason Varitek 2004 Game Used Jersey with Number Change." Why would the Sox issue a previously worn jersey to guy who has worn the same number since 2000? Oddly enough, the number of the back - before the change - was number 34, which David Ortiz has worn since joining the Sox in 2003.

Not sure if this is the reason, but Varitek wears a size 50 and Ortiz a size 52. Is it possible that they started making the Ortiz jersey and then changed it to the Varitek? Does this happen, being so close in numbers?

Shouldn't this jersey have one? or evidence of one?
