Teamsters

if you got my email yesterday, you know that the Teamsters took over bargaining for Nashville Metro PD the other day. Here's the reason they are doing it...

"As union membership wanes across the country, the Teamsters are part of a federation of labor unions seeking to recruit public and private sector service employees to bolster their ranks, said Dan Cornfield, a Vanderbilt University professor and labor sociologist".

It has nothing to do with advancing police issues, and everything to do with getting paid...

-----A quote from National President, Chuck Canterbury---

Another selling point, Canterbury said, is the FOP's police-bargaining experience. While the Teamsters have hundreds of thousands of members in the private sector, Canterbury said their power there lies in one tactic: the right to strike. That power is gone when you're talking about public safety workers, he said.

"Bargaining with a politician is not like bargaining with a company," Canterbury said. "And public unions cannot strike."

He acknowledged that the department needs to change but doesn't think the Teamsters will bring any change that's positive to the lives of Metro police officers.

"Being disgruntled is great to facilitate change, but that change needs to come from within," Canterbury said. •

I'm telling you, brothers and sisters...it's just a matter of time before they are here and this becomes our problem too.
