Thanks to late-arriving monsoonal moisture, I witnessed mammatus variations four days in a row this week (my personal record). Never the beautiful close-up views like Gini recently posted, but interesting all the same. Here is a cunim that must be 20miles away, with mammas lower left:

H, I can't be 100% certain, but in the context of the week's cloud happenings, I am...well...fair to partly cloudy. Mammatus are a presence, lacunosis an absence (and typically roughly circular). Here is another view from the same event, with pylons to boot:

Andrew, so wonderful to see a whole cumulonimbus from a distance, with all its bits & pieces so clear. Just seeing parts of such a huge cloud close up can be amazing, but it is truly spectacular to see the whole thing. Thank you. GWW

Nicely put, AK, thank you; I'll second GWW. Does it help to decide if the last one was coming or going? The text (below) suggests mamma are at the tail end
