Monsoon mammas

Thanks to late-arriving monsoonal moisture, I witnessed mammatus variations four days in a row this week (my personal record). Never the beautiful close-up views like Gini recently posted, but interesting all the same. Here is a cunim that must be 20miles away, with mammas lower left:

A closer look at it:

And from a day earlier, a gigantic display. Yes, those are the Sierrra Nevada below the mammas:

Very impressive, AK. Could I just ask you confirm the last one is not stratocumulus lacunosus

Thanks, all.

H, I can't be 100% certain, but in the context of the week's cloud happenings, I am...well...fair to partly cloudy. Mammatus are a presence, lacunosis an absence (and typically roughly circular). Here is another view from the same event, with pylons to boot:

Andrew, I don't remember the monsoons going on so late in the year. Is this something new, or has it been gradually happening?

Andrew, so wonderful to see a whole cumulonimbus from a distance, with all its bits & pieces so clear. Just seeing parts of such a huge cloud close up can be amazing, but it is truly spectacular to see the whole thing. Thank you. GWW

GWW, thanks, glad you appreciate the long view. And Noctilucy, yes that was some late monsoon flow but, no, it is not part of a trend.

Nicely put, AK, thank you; I'll second GWW. Does it help to decide if the last one was coming or going? The text (below) suggests mamma are at the tail end
