The photo of clouds around a mountain near Tromsų, North Norway. by
© Saskia van der Sluis shown on the CAS Home Page today Wed. 25 Jan 2012, reminds me of my days with Biggin Hill Flying Club, Kent, England in the late 1960's - when the CFI (Chief Flying Instructor) said that the worst clouds pilots need to worry about are the SOLID ONES i.e. mountains shrouded out of sight in ordinary clouds. This photo shows how easily grey mountains merge into grey clouds. Sadly, even in these days of amazing technology, air accidents are still caused by pilots not taking sufficient account of their barometric pressure indicators, or getting disorientated in mountainous areas. Take care in clouds, folks!

Thank you Saskia for showing us some clouds in a part of the world which does not appear often in CAS. I look forward to seeing some more of Norway's stunning scenery and the cloud formations it gives rise to. GWW
