Noctilucent clouds - Shropshire?

Hello one and all!

Wondered if there was anyone based around Shropshire that noticed these clouds in the west last night (13.02.12) at around 18.20? Not distinct enough to attempt a photo (and no tripod to attempt a long exposure)!

Anyway, were they Noctilucent clouds?

Thanks!

Hi Maria,

Extremely difficult to say one way or another without photographic evidence. However, given the time of year and the time of day you saw these mystery clouds, I would say it was very doubtful they were noctilucent. Sorry I can't be more positive. Here's a little info about NLC's,

Best,

Thanks Alec! Appreciate the reply!
Wonder what they were then! Never seen anything like (and I look at clouds a lot - obviously! wink.gif ).

A cloud that I would love to see. But I believe I'm too far south. I guess there's a chance to see most other clouds - although you'd need special conditions for a roll cloud, for example - but you have to be further north for noctilucent clouds (the UK's fine, but not Tokyo). So hope you were lucky enough to see them, even if they were a little faint!

Thanks Andrew. That's the only real disadvantage with some clouds, they're so short lived and unpredictable! (Unlike the wall to wall grey stuff we've had here for seemingly days....!)
Hope you'll get lucky one day too, maybe on your travels! happy.gif
