The first Black and White thread got too big for even my fast connection to the World Wide Mess, so let us continue with B&W2. This I witnessed just yesterday. I titled it "Antagony":

My old post sort of got lost in the original B&W thread. So then, how do you convert colour to B&W? There are lots of ways of achieving this, what's your preferred workflow?
Great pics everybody! Anita, the second from the top is especially magnificent.
I like to do my black and white photos in Adobe Camera Raw. Maybe a little tweak afterwards in Photoshop, but mostly in ACR. From raw to dot gain to srgb for web.
I used to have a real darkroom where I did my own prints. I sold the enlarger some ten years ago. Still kind of miss the red light and Ilford multigrade. But I do not miss the chemicals.

I use Paint Shop Pro (cheaper than Adobe) and find it adequate. A free photo editor called Irfanview is also very useful.
I still haven't taken the plunge with RAW - those huge file sizes scare me, plus the extra processing when I struggle as it is to keep up with my rapidly expanding photo library.
I too enjoyed dabbling the 'old fashioned' chemical way, but never had a dedicated darkroom, and having to set everything up then pack it away again in the dusty attic of a small family home eventually sapped my enthusiasm. Then along came digital....

Yes Jari, a lot of fun, but a challenge in a different sort of way. You have the black and the white,,and all the grays in between . So sometimes its a challenge to use as many of the grays and sometimes be a minimalist and use as few as one can. Eliciting emotions, or response with black and white has always been and continues to be the challenge. One problem with posting on a website, is size. The size of a print has a lot to do with its initial impact. I am considering a printer that can go to like 16 inches or abouts. Cloud pictures , imho, just need to be as large as one can get.
Anyway, I had fun with the below shot. There was interesting stuff going on and I did not really " see" the pic until up on the computer.Juxtaposition of the strange is always a challenge I have fun with.

Nah, I wouldn't bother, it's all rubbish. We haven't had terrestrial/satellite/cable tv for ages. Why when you have the biggest screen of the lot just outside your door?! No repeats, endless re-runs and definitely no ads!
@ Mike Wow, I want to go surfing. The Alfred Shaheen, board shorts and shades are on, I'm all ready. I can hear the waves breaking and feel the spray on my face!
