Most interesting sky we've had for a while with a fairly stiff breeze blowing from an approximately westerly direction, veering to south south west. First photo (sorry about the join) shows a fohn effect, looking approx west to the northern Lake District.
The contrails were getting very messed about today, and I've thrown in a lenticular and a jellyfish for good measure.
If you can see black specks on the fourth one (with the moon) they are gulls, not dust on my lens.

Heap big smoke signals, Anita. I am impressed by the fohn effect and look forward to that Helm Cap in late Spring.

West to the Lake District? That confuses me, let alone Helen. From Westmorland I could understand, but from Cumberland? And not far from the coast?

We are in the wide flat Eden valley, with the Pennines to the east and the start of the Northern Lakeland Fells to the west - closest sea is probably NW - the Solway Firth.
Although westerlies prevail, the most notable 'fohn' days are when there is a persistent easterly, and we are subjected (priviledged?) to the helm. I do see cloud bars to the west/south west from time to time, and this one was particularly noticeable today, with a definite rolling motion. My timelapse attempt was unfortunately spoiled by sunshine.

Anita, Nice pictures! Most cloud bearing systems when passing thru Arizona ,tend to be quick and breezy affairs with the variety you have captured during your day. Its the variety that keeps one on their toes and thus generates the interest. Its like ,,never a dull moment. But, alas,,the one thing I haven't seen in the desert here are gulls...I am assuming you are referring to the sea gull. Years ago a storm front brought a few lost pelicans to the desert,,but sea gulls,,I don't think so. Oh. I have to go, something is ringing, must be a fohn gull, so thanks for sharing. Looks like you had a great day of it.

do any seagulls still live by the sea? We get clouds of them here whenever something delicious is spread on the fields
