The Port Eliot Festival, at St Germans in Cornwall, happens at the end of next week (19th - 22nd July) and Gavin will be giving an illustrated cloud talk, promoting the new book, 'Clouds That Look Like Things'. Port Eliot is where it all began, back in 2004, when Gavin was asked to give a talk on clouds - he called the talk 'The Inaugural Lecture of the Cloud Appreciation Society', a society that didn't exist, and then found that everyone wanted to join. The rest, as they say, is history.....

I wondered if any Westcountry (or further afield) CAS members were thinking of going? Gavin's talk is on the Friday (20th) at 2pm. It's a great little festival, gentle and quirky and in a brilliant setting close to the River Lynher - worth a visit anyway, and Gavin is a bonus!

It's nice to know what our founder is up to from time to time. At the end of The World Tonight, 20JUL12, was a piece about a Book Club which planned to meet and discuss whilst walking. Gavin was called, perhaps by phone, to give expert opinion presumably about being en pleine air, since he was introduced as the founder of the CAS. He made some light hearted comments about bumping into trees whilst reading, but was very much in favour of such fresh air discussion not being constrained by eye to eye contact across a table.
