I read somehwere that the house still exists, but it has been changed probably to discourage tourists and onlookers. The address is no longer "112" Ocean Avenue, the number was changed to something else.
Also, the "eye-like" windows were removed and replaced with square windows. All the shutters have been painted black.
Here is a user-submitted photo of the house as it appeared in 1975. You can see that the house is on a rather small (narrow) lot. The boathouse can also be seen in the photo
Here's an image of the house that they'll use for the remake. As I understand it, The production company is using this house because the people of Amityville didn't want the publicity....again! This is an existing house somewhere else in New York (i believe). They added the structure on the second floor of the house to make it somewhat resemble the original house (the eyes part).
The house in the 2005 movie remake was found in Wisconsin. They did add on to it to resemble the original. In my opinion it does not look like a dutch colonial.
You're right about the house being in Wisconsin. Yea, the house doesn't look right. They added the top part that looks Dutch Colonial (like the original) but the bottom half doesn't match. the bottom half looks Southern Colonial or something. Like it has dual personalities. Now that's kind of creepy!
this house is actually in Silver lake Wisconsin. Basically right down the street from my house.
I've stood in front of the lot, and it is an amazing house, and it's incredibly huge. Most of the scenes of the movie were shot in silver lake WI, and Antioch IL. In Antioch is where the church scene was taken place, and let me tell you. I've been passing by that church ever seen i was tiny. and it's an amazing place too.
Today, the home is occupied by a family that is living there in peace. The front of the home, as well as its number on Ocean Avenue, have been changed and despite the regular visits by the curious and believers in the supernatural, life along Ocean Avenue in Amityville is fairly routine. Sometimes a car will pull up in the middle of the night. A passenger will get out and cut away a piece of grass from the home. Sometimes another car will pass in the middle of a hot, summer afternoon, stop and the occupants will stare. Sometimes a deranged individual may even try to break into the home. But mostly, it is just another house in Amityville with nothing more than a horrific history.
I think the house was beautiful then and if I were to see it now I would feel the same. I don't know if I believe the stories of evil being in the house other then a murderer. I would like to see what the house looks like now in 2005 just to see the beauty of a old home in Amityville N.Y . I have watched the Amityville Horror and plan on seeing the new 2005 movie as well. If someone can get a picture of the home as it is now please post it if you will. Thank You!
Thank You so much I have wanted to see it since I watched the movie....I love older homes I knew it would be just as nice now as it was back in 74.....It was a terriable thing that happened in the home but at least now the people living there are happy and able to enjoy living in such a beautiful place happily.
Last weekend I was near Amityville and decided to take a ride to check it out. My friend and I found the house and it is indeed on Ocean avenue. I believe the address has been changed from 112 to 108.
The house is not at all spooky looking. It's actually a beautiful house and nice town. It was interesting just to see the real house though. I think the house used in the original movie was a lot scarier.
I would absolutely love to see the photo you took of it, i live in california so its not so easy for me to go to and take a picture, please post it soon, i would love to see it please!
I dont know if anyone will read this, but i saw the house the other day. I am working down here in long island. It looks like an ordinary house. It has the barn roof and the half-round windows have been replaced with square windows. The locals seem kind of annoyed about people coming to see the house. For the record its now 108 ocean avenue, not that it matters cause if you tried to go to 112, you would figure it out right away.
I went a few years ago. I used to live about 20 min from there, but didn't see all the hype about it until I moved away. Anyway, you can totally tell it's the house. Yes, the number is changed & it is a little remodeled. But the house still looked the same. You can get in big trouble for being there though. Cops patrol the area all day & night to catch people. Luckily I got out of the car, took a few pics & got out of there in time. My parents remember everything that happened back in the 70's. I guess on Long Island it was spread. It has to be one of the best sights I've seen...just to say that I've actually been there.
Interesting that cops are allowed to make people leave. I would think that a street or roadway is public property and that anyone would have the right to be there (as long as you don't get on the private property of the homeowners).
Probably can't MAKE you leave but do ENCOURAGE you to leave. These people who live around there are probably so sick and tired of people lurking about that they've made it the business of the police to hurry people along
The house in the remake is indeed located in wisconsin. Silver lake to be exact. i live about 15 minutes away. it is conveniently located right in between chicago and milwauke. my guess as to why they picked this location is because the lake is open and probably made filming easier. they did a great job renovating to make it look authentic. another guess would be the set up in the backyard is very close to the original property, boathouse and all.
seriously? You would live there? I mean I dont buy all that crap the Lutzes wrote but that house has to be messed up all the same. Arent there some stories from the guy living there now?
Hey all, I'm from LI, one town over from Amityville. A friend of mine lived right by the "horror house" so I've seen it in person a few times. The number wasn't changed, the photos showing the house as it is today are correct. It's really a beautiful home, so hard to believe what happened there... Side note, the water behind the house isn't a lake, it's a canal that leads to the Great South Bay (body of water south of LI which is separated from the Atlantic Ocean by the barrier islands- Jones beach, etc).
