A new rumor about Fiat & DC/Smart?

I've been seeing a rumor floating around the web recently that Fiat might be considering a Smart platform for the Trepiuno instead of the original GM/Opel platform... I don't know if there is any truth to it, but if so, and they already had some deal worked out with DC/Smart for the Trepiuno platform, it makes it seem a lot less a stretch of the imagination that they could score the Roadster platform for a mid-engine X successor...
