Interesting, new price point?

March 10 2005, 12:37 PM

Let's have a guess, how about mid-engine cars on the US market today? (prices USD):

===

Lamborghini Gallardo $165,000

Ferrari 360 Modena $160,000

Ford GT $140,000

Acura NSX $89,000

Lotus Elise $43,000

Toyota MR2 Spyder $26,000

===

So what does that say about where a "New X1/9" would fit in?

My opinion would be, BEAT THE MR2 in performance AND price and we'd have a winner!!

Peace, -Mac

Does anyone know what the retail price was on . . .

Does anyone know what the retail price was on an 1986 x1/9 with power windows, leather seats and AC?

Inquiring minds would like to know.

Thanks in advance -Bob

well, "officially"...

March 10 2005, 1:10 PM

... I think it was somewhere around $13,000 to $14,000 USD but none of them were selling at that price by then, because this was very near the end of their distribution in the US market and (due to Fiat's "R&R" - rust and reliability - issues in the US at the time, as well as the body and engine having not been significantly updated in years) at that point they were getting their butts kicked in sales by the likes of the Pontiac Fiero and Toyota MR2...

Peace, -Mac

Thanks for the price info Mac. <nt>

oi oi oi.

(aussie car prices are listed on websites without GST and luxury car tax, which i've added approximately to the totals here)

Lamborghini Gallardo - $500k

Ferrari 360 Modena - $500k

Ford GT - N/A - likely $450k

Honda NSX - $310k

Lotus Elise - $80k (wow, dropped $20k for entry level)

Toyota MR2 Spyder - $50k
