Visiting Prague

I will visit my favourite town Prague (a perfect mix of models, books, culture, architecture, food and fantastic beer!) in the first half of June and while I have been to Prague several times before and have visited a lot of modelshops and bookshops over the years I still have some questions.
Its been some five years since I was there and I wonder what shops I shouldent miss, I have a whole week and will visit with my brother and son, both modellers so I have plenty of time.
The first time I was in Prague (some ten years ago) I found some shops in the outskirts of the town (at the end of the metrolines etc), are these still around?
The other times I have been in Prague I have been there with my wife so visiting shops in the outskirts wasent an option so the shops in the center of town were visited (and I must say tehre are plenty of them!).
Are there any other places/shops/museums etc I shouldent miss (Lesany is on the list).
Not only AFV-modeling are of interest, also modeltrains etc are of interest.
Btw, is SKP widely available in Prague?

Welcome!

May 7 2008, 11:46 PM

Hi Erik,

glad to hear you enjoyed your visits here!

There are two Bermuda Triangles where modellers usually disappear in Prague centre: the first one is marked by MPM shop in Myslikova, modelbazar in Pstrossova, Bilek shop in Opatovicka, Pecka shop in Karoliny Svetle, railway hobby shop in Bartolomejska and Krakatit (Netopejr) book store in Jungmannova streets. The second and smaller is marked by Pecka in Zlatnicka, Corona book store in Hybernska, and MAC shop in Benediktska streets.

There are three shops near the end of Metro C line: Legato in Mendelova, Blue Max hobby shop and book store in U krčské vodárny, and MPM in Budejovicka streets.

Very interesting Artur model shop is in the Na Belidle street on the line B. New railway hobby shop Atelier Modely.biz is in Slanska street. You can reach it by tram from the Andel Metro B station.

Two nice hobbyshops - one of railways models, second for car models are in the Cerna Ruze passage from Prikopy to Panska streets.

Addresses of many of shops mentioned sometimes with maps you can find here:

Of interest is the Army Museum in the U Pamatniku street.

And Museum of Aeronautic in Kbely.

Museum of Czech Railways in Luzna west of Prague has three BR-52s on display.

Museum of agriculture machines in Caslav east of Prague has some nice wartime tractors.

Just what I need.
Now, the only problem is deciding what to buy.

Wonderful Prague!

July 7 2008, 9:41 PM

Thanks again!

This was my fifth visit to Prague (and definitly not my last!).
I visited some 22 hobbyshops as well as the military museum and Lesany museum.
I was especially impressed with "Blue Max" wich was new to me but after chatting with the owner I realize that I have been in his two previous shops.
Anyway I am convinced that Prague is THE town for us modelers!

August 15 2009, 4:40 PM

Hi Mustafa,

you're welcome! The list is still valid with two changes:

The Legato shop had moved from Mendelova street to space literally next door to the Blue Max shop:
http://legatokits.cz/shop.html

The railway hobby shop Atelier Modely.biz with lots of useful diorama stuff had been renamed into "Kralovstvi zeleznic" (Kingdom of railways) and had had been moved to neighbourhood of Metro line B "Andel" station:
