On a late November day on a remote forest ridge in Northern California, a wounded bear got the ultimate revenge: The bear shot the hunter.
The bear went down and appeared finished. Runnells then approached at close range with a .44 magnum in his right hand, loaded and cocked.
Suddenly, the bear sprang up on his hind legs and pounced on top of Runnells. In the process, Runnells fired at point blank range.
With both paws, the bear then scooped Runnells behind the knees and knocked him down on his back. The two then wrestled for several seconds. The .44 magnum was fired again, then went flying through the air.
