The Oregon Geographic Names Board has approved removing the word squaw from three areas in the Willamette National Forest.
That leaves about 170 spots from rivers to ridges to ranger stations tagged with the word, which refers to the female genitalia in the Algonquin language.
Among the name changes, Squaw Mountain is to be renamed Latiwi Mountain, the word Molala use to refer to themselves.
Maine and Minnesota have similar squaw bans.
There are a lot of Squaw names out there. Topozone couldn't even get through the A states before reaching its 100 limit.
